Meet our year 4 teachers

Miss Kathleen Gannon ("Ganno")

(4A and Team Leader)

I grew up in the country on a dairy farm with my family in a tiny town with less than 100 people! I love to go home and ride the motorbike and help my Dad out by getting up at 4:30am in the morning to milk the cows.

During the school holidays, I love to go camping in the bush, swimming at the beach and, of course, relaxing. In my spare time I am very active, you will probably see me riding to school on a dry day! You’ll also definitely hear me talking about how much I love to play footy for the West Footscray Roosters where, in 2023, I captained my team to win a premiership!

  • What I'm reading right now: The Lost Man - Jane Harper
  • Favourite sport: To play: AFL. To watch: Gymnastics
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): Maths
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: This is my third year at PMPS.

Miss Emily

(4B)

I am so excited to be back at Port Melbourne this year. I was lucky enough to complete a placement here in 2021 and then returned here to teach in 2023 after completing my studies in 2022. I love that I get to work with an expert teaching partner every day!

Outside of school I enjoy escaping back to the country where I grew up and being in the outdoors camping. I also like to enjoy all the things that Melbourne has to offer, especially brunching! This year I have been recruited by premiership captain of the Bokkers (Miss Gannon) to play my first ever season of Aussie Rules football. I can't wait!

  • What I'm reading right now: Darling Girls - Sally Hepworth
  • Favourite sport: Aussie Rules Football - thanks to Ganno!!
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): Easily art!
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: This is my second year at PMPS.

Miss Kath

(4C Tues-Wed)

I'm loving being a part of this great school community and have worked as a Leading Teacher here since 2018. I thoroughly enjoy working with team leaders and other teachers across the school, leading Literacy and Numeracy three days a week. And I feel very lucky to be a Year 4 class teacher on the other two days.

When I am not at school I enjoy playing tennis, going to pilates and looking for unique, colourful earrings at craft markets. I've travelled to a lot of countries, with Japan sitting at the top of my favourite list. My next adventure will be to take a selfie with a cute, smiley quokka.

  • What I'm reading right now: Question 7 by Richard Flanagan
  • Favourite sport: Tennis
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): Writing
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: This is my seventh year.

Miss Sarah

(4C Mon, Thurs, Fri)

Hello wonderful PMPS community! My PMPS journey began back in 2012, so some might say I’m ‘part of the furniture’. Over this time, I've taught Year 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and STEM, had lots of different roles as a staff member and hope that my passion for teaching and learning shines through in all I do! I now work part-time to juggle family and work life.

Hailing originally from Tassie, I moved to Melbourne with my family when I was 16 years old. Since then, I have traversed the globe, gathering experiences that feel like a lifetime ago! Here and now, I especially love the outdoors, gardens, relishing tasty cuisine and embracing adventure wherever it may be found. My pride and joy are my two daughters, a lively toddler and an eager, tired Preppie. Life is full, a bit crazy and a lot of fun!

  • What I'm reading right now: The Tea Gardens' by Fiona McIntosh
  • Favourite sport: Basketball
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): Maths and Art
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: 12 years... with two maternity leave breaks in recent years!

Mr Heath

(4D)

Hi everyone, I'm Mr Heath and have been teaching here at Port Melbourne for 2 years, both of which have been lucky enough to be as the 4D teacher. I started teaching a bit later than usual after following a dream of becoming an AFL ruckman. This didn't eventuate as, unlike most AFL ruckmen, I’m 170cm tall, hindering my prospects greatly. It was while I was getting taught that this pathway wasn't for me that I thought, maybe teaching is for me. Since that point I have loved my time working with the next generation and enjoying everything they and this great school have to offer.

When I'm not teaching, my partner Georgie and I are usually waking at all hours of the night checking on our 4 month old son, Lenny. This often results in a large coffee cup in my hand upon arrival to school. On top of this I love watching on my beloved Tigers, which may this year be through gritted teeth as they storm their way towards the lower end of the ladder. I look forward to seeing more of the families and students of Year 4 as our year progresses and can't wait for all the great adventures we have planned this year.

  • Favourite sport: AFL
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): P.E.
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: 2 Years.
