Performing Arts News

This term, Prep students successfully settled in Performing Arts classes and enjoyed singing a repertoire of songs, moving with rhythms and games.

Year 1&2 students enjoyed singing songs with hand and body movement. It was delightful to see students joyfully singing the famous Japanese lunch box song "Obento Bako no Uta おべんとうばこのうた" we have learnt even during playtime. We ended up making our own lunch box song "Obento Bako no Uta おべんとうばこのうた".

Year 3&4 students were challenged to play the melodica. We have been able to play a song in rounds. It was great to see students helping each other to play the song. Music teaches us how to be a good team player to create harmony, and it should be fun. We have all celebrated whatever level we have achieved.

Year 5&6 students had looked up some Japanese rap music: what makes the lyrics rhythmical? We had guests all the way from Japan, the Tokyo Gakugei University students. Students showcased their lyrics to those university students. They were very impressed with what our students can do.

Then we created electronically generated beats and recorded our raps using Audacity. It was wonderful to see growing music creators!

In Japanese, music is 音楽.音(sound)楽(fun, pleasure)

I hope everyone has experienced joyful moments in Performing Arts classes, whether it was just singing, making a sound or creating a masterpiece.
