District Swimming

Last Thursday, 28 students represented SEPS and competed in the district swimming carnival at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic centre. These students were chosen to attend after swimming the fastest in their age groups at our recent School House swimming Carnival.

Each swimmer demonstrated great sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive attitude. We saw all our swimmers putting in their best efforts in each event and competing with determination and dedication.

The carnival consisted of individual Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke relay and Butterfly events and crowd favourites, the freestyle and medley relays.

It was great to see and hear our SEPS students giving it their all with many personal best times and words of congratulations to their successful competitors.

Congratulations all swimmers including the following place getters….

  • Anna V who came 1st place in Breastroke. Anna goes through to the Kingston Division Carnival. GOOD LUCK ANNA!
  • Ella C, Abi P, Charlotte F, and Anna V who won 3rd place in the 12-13 girls Freestyle Relay.

Physical Education

Foundation to Level 2 classes have been working with Luke from Melbourne Tumbling Academy on their gymnastics skills, balance and fundamental movement skills. Each session has included various stations designed to challenge the students and show progression week on week.

Senior school students have been working on net and wall games through guided and exploratory lessons. Students have used known games such as volleyball, newcombe ball and tennis as a basis for learning with level 6's creating their own net and wall games.

   VISUAL ART

Ellen Jose Student Reconciliation Artwork

Here are some amazing creations by Level 3 students, who explored 'what reconciliation means to them' through their art. Students chose their preferred medium of paint, pencil, posca, crayon or pastel, and could use symbols or images that represented what it means when people reconcile. This is inspired by the Bayside Council's Ellen Jose Reconciliation Awards, honouring the life of this pioneer activist, artist and Torres Strait Elder. The exhibition will be held later this year and we will be submitting some entries soon. The students were very thoughtful about their interpretations of this concept, and have some great 'stories' to tell.

Love Art!

Mandarin

In our Mandarin classes, our foundation students are learning essential phrases such as "I'm a boy" and "I'm a girl" while incorporating basic greetings. Such as, "Hi, my name is... Good bye". They made a paper puppet for this topic.

Grade 1 students are mastering numbers 1-10 through a dynamic math game. In pairs, they draw numbers and find them on worksheets, reinforcing Mandarin skills while having fun.

Grade 2 students have been making remarkable progress in their Mandarin studies. They've transitioned from simply memorising numbers 1-10 to able to write them from 1 to 100. These diligent learners are mastering stroke order and character formation.

Grade 3 and 4 students have achieved a remarkable milestone by memorising and rewriting learned words in Chinese characters. Not only that, but they've also showcased their understanding by reconstructing scrambled words into complete sentences. Well done!

Performing Arts

Across the school this term, many classes have been treading the boards, honing their stagecraft, and generally having a great time. The foundation students have been busy exploring the classical canon with The Theogony, the Level 3s have delved into MacBeth (or the Scottish Play for the more superstitious among you), and the Level 5s are trying their hands at dramaturgy, through the creation of their very own original short plays.

Excelsior!
