Inquiry 👀

We're nearing the conclusion of our inquiry unit, "A Healthy Mind, Body, and Spirit." Recently, students were introduced to their end-of-term project, which provides an opportunity for them to showcase their comprehension of what constitutes a healthy mind, body, and spirit. We're eagerly anticipating their creations! The mark awarded to students will form their Health grade for their Semester 1 report.

Additionally, as part of their homework for the upcoming cycle, students will be tasked with generating interview questions to inquire about an adult's or family member's perspective on what it means to maintain a healthy mind, body, and spirit.

Literacy 📖

In our literacy sessions, we've shifted our attention to persuasive writing and debating. The students have shown keen interest in debating, and we're thrilled to announce upcoming internal and external debating competitions. Standby for details. Our emphasis is on exploring various persuasive devices and understanding their effects on an audience.

We encourage students to read a variety of articles and newspaper reports, and discuss what persuasive devices the author uses. Alternatively, families may wish to play a game of 'would you rather?' to spark conversations of debating. Here are some conversation starters:

  1. Would you rather a pet rat or snake?
  2. Visit the moon or the bottom of the ocean?
  3. Would you rather go to school four days a week for 10 hours or five days a week for eight hours?

Maths 🧮

The students have been delving into prime, composite, squared, and triangular numbers in their recent studies. We introduced a fun game of bingo at school, centred around identifying prime or composite numbers. This game can also be enjoyed at home, so do ask your children to teach it to you. All you need is a 4x4 grid where you can write any prime or composite numbers in each box. Then, roll two dice and multiply the numbers together. The first player to achieve four in a row wins!

Additionally, the students have revisited fractions to refresh their understanding. Fractions play a vital role in everyday life, from cooking and eating, to measurement and telling time. We encourage students to observe how frequently fractions appear throughout their day. Practicing the language of fractions such as 'one-quarter' or 'one-third' is crucial for their mathematical development.

District Swimming 🏊‍♂️

On March 7th, ten Year 6 students participated in the Seaside District Swimming Carnival. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the participants for demonstrating immense pride and representing SEPS with dignity!

Congratulations goes to Charlotte Frost, Rhodri Sutton, Mona Hamilton, Charles Benton, Abi Pavis, Jason Vagas, Henry Murphy & Mana Tipene.

A special shoutout goes to Anna Vigneron who proceeded through to Division and placed 4th in her Breaststroke event.

Interschool Sports 🏀

We are nearing the conclusion of the summer sports season.

The final two weeks of interschool sports includes:

Week 7 - Double Header - SEPS vs Beaumaris then Sandringham

Week 8 - SEPS vs Black Rock

Scienceworks ⚛️

On March 26th, during the last week of school, the year 6 students will visit Scienceworks. This outing not only complements our current inquiry unit on the human body but also connects to the students' ongoing Science studies on Space.

We are still seeking parent volunteers. If you have a valid Working with Children Check and are available to join us for the excursion, please inform the school office.

Thanks again for your ongoing support,

The Level 7 Teaching Team
