Welcome Back to Term 4

The library team hopes you had a wonderful and restful holiday. As always the library is ready for another term of of reading, learning and discovery.

Library Notice

This term, the library will be open from Week 1 to Week 8 only. This means the library will be closed for borrowing and lessons during Weeks 9 and 10. This closure allows the library team to count books, weed out old or damaged stock, and prepare the collection for the following year. To help with this process, please ensure your child returns any borrowed library books during their Week 8 library lesson.

We kindly ask all families to check around the home for any Chatswood Public School library books. Most of our books are easy to recognise, they have a barcode with the school's name on it, usually located on the front cover or inside on the first page. We also use white labels on the spines of our books that indicate where the book belongs in the collection. If you find any library books during your searches, please have your children return them during their library lessons.

Programs

This term, the library will start a number of new units:

  • Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 – Students will continue working on the InitialLit Story Book lessons. They will expand their literary and comprehension skills by exploring a range of quality texts, supported by fun activities and games designed to enhance their understanding of the texts and vocabulary. Each year group will study four texts this term.
  • Stage 2 – As part of their writing unit, students are learning about persuasive writing. Integrated with our technology lessons, they will explore the world of advertising and learn how to use Canva to create their own adverts. This unit focuses on developing persuasive writing and digital design skills. Students will study the importance of various persuasive language techniques used in advertising and learn about design elements within Canva.
  • Stage 3 – This term, Stage 3 students will delve into coding and programming. We will primarily use Scratch, but students will also develop basic HTML skills to create a homepage displaying their Scratch projects. Students will explore how coding works and learn how this powerful language is used to create the software we use every day.

Volunteers

The Library team is once again looking for parent volunteers who might be willing to help us in the library. We will train you on how to use the computers, stack the shelves, and assist Ms. Lee with preparing the books for the shelves. If you were one of the lovely parents who helped Ms. Lee last term, your help would be invaluable, but we also welcome assistance from anyone in our community who is willing to lend a hand.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email the school office attn: Mr. Matthews with your name, contact details, and the days you’re available to help. He will coordinate your involvement with our office manager.

Thank you in advance for your support!

That's it from us in the library. Remember to keep on Reading.
