GOOD THINGS

GOOD THINGS HAPPENING AT KKHS

We have so many good things to showcase this term. We have celebrated Education Week and Book Week, have had Kurri High represented on the sporting field, in an illuminating challenge, been awarded prestigious awards, officially opened our new kitchens and an election was held.  Year 12 coloured the school with a Fun Run and then, with the wisdom of Superman to guide them, graduated from our school.  Some of these stories will be on this page, other's appear throughout the newsletter.

Education Week wrap up

The week came together on an awesome note, with a special assembly celebrating both staff and students who are igniting their potential in so many ways - from showing grit and determination in the classroom, for going above and beyond what is expected through to recognising our champion D&D players at lunchtimes.  What REALLY was impressive though, was the HOUSE Spirit, the energy and support given to award recipients was amazing!

Check out the video for wrap of the week and a refresher on which house was crowned Champion.

Book Week has proven to be just as much fun in High School as in Primary!

We've had an art competition to create Manga characters, there has been super sleuthing going on as students match teachers with their favourite book, English dressed up each day as a different book and today we saw plenty of characters roaming the school, from the Lorax, to Bluey, Mr Bump ran into Little Miss Trouble and there were Banana's in Pyjama's chasing Teddy Bears!

Congratulations Georgia! NSW DoE School Based Apprentice / Trainee of the Year Award

To cap off a busy last week of the term, Mr Hope and Mrs Tilden had the absolute pleasure of attending the William Wilkins Gallery at the DoE State office for Georgia Sams to receive her NSW DoE School Based Apprentice / Trainee of the Year Award at the 20th Nanga Mai Awards. At an event attended by the NSW Minister for Education, DoE Secretary, both Deputy Secretaries and a range of Executive Directors, Georgia received her award from the Minister for Skills, Steve Wahn (who remembered Georgia from his visit earlier this year!). Georgia also received her scholarship to support her with further studies at the University of Newcastle and a range of other prizes in her recipient prize pack!

New look kitchens provide new opportunities.

After nearly a term of test driving and getting the set-up just right, we had the pleasure of showcasing our newly renovated, commercial standard school kitchens, complete with new appliances, and stainless steel work spaces.

Lead by TAS Teacher Caitlin Macfarlane, and hosted by our incoming student leaders, a delectable array of sweet and savoury treats were served.  Officially opened by Local MP Clayton Barr, we also welcomed the families of our new leaders,  had the pleasure of some past student leaders return to chat about our new alumni project and encouraged staff to come along too.

The kitchen upgrade will mean a wealth of opportunity now opens up for our Food Tech, Hospitality and senior VET subjects.  There are exciting times ahead.

Meet our new School Leaders

This year, we took a little bit of a gamble and re-invigorated the voting process for school captains.  In true democratic fashion, lead by the SRC, we gave all our students a real world election day experience (minus the sausage sizzle - we'll remember that next year), with polling station, colour coded ballot strips and of course, the electoral officials overseeing it all.

Voting for the JAECG and Interact remained within their membership, and we wish to

CONGRATULATE OUR NEW CAPTAINS AND SCHOOL LEADERSHIP TEAMS.

Fun day & Colour Run

This day is a highlight on the school calendar for really bringing our school together.  There's the fashion parade - that see's the friendly competition between staff faculties grow a little every year - won again by PDHPE for their Happy Gilmour theme, the colour run, talented musical performances and most importantly FUN!  Check out the highlights video below:
