Year 10 try-a-course

Year 10 students recently participated in a try-a-course lesson for Stage 6 Hospitality, offering them a taste of the skills and techniques involved in the industry. During the session, students prepared a refreshing fruit frizz drink, learning how to use a Boston shaker and strainer to create a perfectly mixed beverage. The hands-on activity introduced them to essential hospitality practices, including precision, presentation, and customer-focused service. By experiencing these practical skills firsthand, students gained insight into the fast-paced and creative world of hospitality, inspiring interest in Stage 6 courses and potential future careers in the field.
Year 10 Fieldwork Excursion

As part of their Environmental Change and Management studies this term, Year 10 students took part in a hands-on fieldwork excursion across the Kurri Kurri region.
The day began at Wood Street Park, where students tested soil permeability. After recent heavy rain, they discovered poor drainage was contributing to waterlogging and increasing flood risks. To extend this investigation, the group visited the new housing development at Gillieston, where they mapped drainage infrastructure and considered how design can influence flood prevention strategies.
The excursion concluded at the Maitland Levee, where students measured slope gradients and produced detailed field sketches to better understand how the landscape shapes flood management.
Throughout the day, students collected valuable data while applying a range of geographical tools. This experience not only strengthened their fieldwork skills but also allowed them to explore pressing local issues around flooding, drainage, and sustainable development—topics that remain highly relevant to our community.
