Foundation Fire Education!

The Foundation students recently participated in a fantastic Fire Education program led by the dedicated firefighters at Glen Waverley Fire Station. During the final week of Term 3, the firefighters visited the school to teach students about the vital role of community helpers, the difference between safe and unsafe fires, and what to do in an emergency.
As part of their learning, students explored important safety concepts such as identifying ‘safe places’ to assemble during an emergency at home and understanding the importance of working smoke detectors. They also learnt the emergency phone number and what to say when calling for help.
Practical safety skills were a key focus, with students discovering how to "stop, drop, cover and roll" if their clothes ever catch fire, and how to safely evacuate a smoke-filled area by staying low and crawling. The students were highly engaged and gained a wealth of knowledge from the experience.
During their second visit, students had the exciting opportunity to explore a fire truck inside and out. They learned about the various tools and equipment firefighters use during emergencies and even got the chance to use the fire hose — a highlight for many!
Overall, it was a memorable and enriching experience. We are incredibly grateful to the Glen Waverley firefighters for their time, support, and commitment to educating our students about fire safety in such an engaging and meaningful way.
