A Term of Fun & Discovery Begins in 5/6J!

Celebrating Friendship Through Faith & Art

We would like to share our collaborative artwork about friendship that we presented at our class Mass last term.

The left hand represents the seven days of creation, showing God’s love for all living things. The middle hand celebrates diversity, decorated with the flags of our families’ countries, reminding us that Jesus loves everyone and that we are all unique. The right hand represents the Holy Spirit, with the faces of all the teachers who guide and support us.

When joined, the three hands form the Holy Trinity which appear to bless all the students at SJV in the background.

We are really proud of what we have created as it reflects the true spirit of friendship at SJV, reminding us that we are all connected with each other and with God!

Market Manoeuvres

Last week we took part in an exciting economics incursion with Linked Incursions. We learned about how people make choices with money and resources and how those choices affect others.

We explored the difference between needs and wants and learned about opportunity cost which is what we give up when we make a choice. We then got to run our own class economy by taking on the roles of suppliers, consumers and builders!

In groups, we became business teams that purchased, produced and sold goods. We quickly discovered how supply and demand can change prices and how hard it can be to make a profit. It was so much fun competing, trading and seeing how everyone’s decisions affected the market.

We also learned that working and trading help communities grow and that governments play an important role in keeping things fair.

It was a fun, hands on approach to learn about money, choices and teamwork. We will continue to learn more about economics throughout the term.

Exploring Economy

This week, we learned about how different resources are used to make every day items. Working in small groups, we discussed and identified which natural, human, and capital resources would be needed to produce items such as a cricket bat, bread, milk and a pencil. We discovered that people, materials, tools and machines all play an important role in creating goods and running a successful economy.

Dance Curriculum

Last week we took part in a dance incursion led by Jari from Dance Curriculum, who brought so much energy, fun and inspiration to our school! Each year level had a 40-minute dance workshop where we learned new moves, worked as a team and built our confidence through dance.

At the end of the day, we all came together to share our dances with each other. It was amazing to see how much we had learned in just one session. Every performance was full of smiles, effort and creativity.

To finish the day, Jari performed a special dance which was absolutely incredible and inspired us all to keep dancing.

We had so much fun and discovered how dance can help us grow, work together and express ourselves with confidence.
