đ§ Water Week at Ocean Grove Primary School â âEvery Drop Counts!â
Â
During Water Week, Ocean Grove Primary School celebrated the theme âEvery Drop Countsâ with a range of hands-on learning experiences and community activities designed to highlight the importance of water as a precious resource.
Â
Across the school, teachers incorporated water-focused lessons into their classroom programs.
Â
Junior students explored where water comes from, how we use it every day, and simple ways to reduce waste. Through literacy, numeracy, and art activities, they created colourful posters and entered a Water Week colouring competition. Year 1 students also used the Scratch Junior app to produce short videos showing creative ways to save water at home and school.
Â
Year 5 and 6 students linked their learning to the School Water Efficiency Program (SWEP), using real-time data from the schoolâs water meters as part of their mathematics data unit. They analysed and compared water usage across different months, strengthening their understanding of data interpretation and resource management.
Â
These activities linked directly to key learning areas across the curriculum, including Science, Mathematics, English, Visual Arts, and Civics and Citizenship, while also building Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical, and Personal and Social Capabilities.
Â
The impact of Water Week was evident in studentsâ increased understanding of how water is used and managed within our school, their enthusiasm for sustainability learning, and the visible celebration of their achievements through displays and projects.
Â
This successful event contributes to Ocean Grove Primary Schoolâs ongoing commitment to the ResourceSmart Schools Program, supporting our progress toward achieving the Water Module and continuing to embed sustainability education in everyday learning.
