The Claw production review

– Maria Chadwick, Director & Performing Arts Teacher

If you were in the auditorium at Phoenix Theatre, Elwood SC, on the evening of Tuesday 16th or Wednesday 17th September, you will have watched our Year 4 present their delightful performance of “The Claw”. I am sure you will join me in congratulating all performers on presenting this dynamic and entertaining show. A question most of us find ourselves answering at some point is “Am I good enough?” It’s close to all our hearts and the story was developed with superb acting, singing and dancing that was well-rehearsed and presented with confidence.

I am SOOOOOOO PROUD of each and every student who participated. From week one, the commitment of students and staff to this show has been evident, and all our efforts culminated in a warm, colourful performance season at our end of Term 3 performances. Each student experienced their own personal journey as they learned the songs, dances and dialogue in nine weeks. Then they transferred all that learning to the theatre environment where they pulled it together to tell a cohesive story, complete with sets, costumes, make-up and small props.

Thank you!

The support offered by our parent community in a myriad of ways and incorporating small to huge tasks, has been essential to the show. My grateful thanks to all who have typed, sewn, cut, glued, nailed, hammered, painted, repaired, driven, purchased, photographed, emailed, soothed, collected, organised, sung, spoken lines, wiped away tears, celebrated, teamed up, bought a ticket or other items … and more. My grateful thanks to you all for your generosity of time, skill and financial support.

Year 4 students, I’m in awe of your determination to go 1% better every time you rehearsed as you honoured your commitment to excellent performance! It’s been a joy to travel this road with you and watch you grow into the amazing performers that you are!

Year 4 teachers, thanks for teaming up with me to encourage our students’ best efforts. It was wonderful to see students taking ownership of the show through learning the provided resources in their own time as well as at school.

In closing, we know that our most memorable life experiences are those that we share with others. It takes a community to ‘raise’ a production, and Port Melbourne Primary School community, you do this incredibly well.

THANK-YOU!

Student reflections

Staging a production is a mammoth undertaking that requires the time and effort of many collaborators. In our next newsletter, we will share our students’ reflections of what they’ve learned – apart from songs, dances and dialogue(!) – and how they’ve grown personally as a result of being involved. Keep an eye out for our Week 4 newsletter to mine the gold that doing a production delivers!
