Cyanotype Workshop LAST SATURDAY @TGSHS - HIGHLIGHTS

A big thank you to TGSHS and the PoPArts Community Partnership Program for supporting our recent cyanotype workshop! 🌿

Participants had the chance to step back in time and discover cyanotype – one of the earliest photographic processes. They learned about its history and contemporary applications, watched a live demonstration, and then created their own unique blueprints on both paper and cotton.

The session was hands-on, creative, and collaborative, with everyone experimenting, sharing ideas, and learning in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

One participant, Petra, summed it up perfectly:“Fabulous! Fun. Really inspiring. Experimenting with different plants, having Renata there to explain and advise, and seeing what others were doing was so valuable. Very much hands-on learning!”

Coming up next… Advanced Cyanotype Workshop! On 1 November, Renata will return to facilitate an Advanced Cyanotype Workshop, where participants can take their skills further.

Learn how to coat your own paper and fabric, experiment with toning, and explore more advanced techniques.

Scene Project excursion

On Thursday, 28th August, Year 11 Drama had the opportunity to perform at the Billie Brown Theatre in Southbank for Queensland Theatre’s Scene Project. The Scene Project provides schools with an original script each year generated by Queensland artists for schools to work with and showcase to other schools and QT professional artists. This year’s script was Recalibrate, written by Shock Therapy Productions, dealing with the issues facing teenagers trying to decide what to do in Senior and the pressures of working out what to do following school.

The Year 11s picked up on the themes of Recalibrate and whether the dream of being able to do whatever career you want to is realistic and achievable, using this to generate an original performance set in Medieval times where human rights and choice were more constrained.

The performance, in true medieval style featured live music with roaming Bards and Buffoons narrating the play, Kings, Queens, Jesters and Nobles burnt for witchcraft, and a Wizard and an Apprentice leading a protest for free leeches. The students got to showcase their satirical & comic performance to 3 other schools, and had the privilege of seeing the other schools performances.

Everyone was amazed at the variety of performances, and how they had used the script of Recalibrate in different ways as stimulus for their shows. After the student showcases, the school casts were shown a performance of Recalibrate from QT theatre that they are touring around Queensland.

It was a fantastic day, where our students got to see 4 other theatrical productions, participate in workshops with students and industry professionals about the process of creating drama, and had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with community of drama students from other schools.
