Year 3 Excursion

At ScienceWorks, the first thing we did was go to the planetarium. The movie that we watched was called ¨Tilt¨. Tilt was a movie about space and forces! After that, we ate snacks for 5 mins. Then we did some rollercoaster engineering! The loops worked very fast for some people. After that, we had lunch for 10 mins. Then we had a look around and then got to the bus and then we went into the school and went home!

On Wednesday the 10th of September we went to the best place for science in the world. The place was called Science Works. It was the Science Works in Spotswood.

First we went to a very cool planetarium where they showed us how the seasons work and I found out that the Earths tilt is about 23.5 degrees and yours shadows go longer when the sun in the sky is lower the light from the sun hits your body more of the light is blocked and your shadow will be longer.

We went through a space entrance that had a very cool model of the first satellite sent into space. After having a snack we went up to the top floor where they had all the exhibits. I saw some model trains and model cars and even a future car that was really tiny but I didn’t appreciate the look of the vehicle. I also did a designer thing where you needed to build your dream car where you build your car and it shows on the big screen above me I built an orange carbon fiber Lamborghini that had a petrol engine.

After that I went to the sports centre where there was lots of body information and body games to play. There was a running game where you had to race someone and there was a sensor triggered when you ran the wall lighted up.There was also a cricket game where you make an umpires call and see is the judgement was correct or incorrect and there was even a bicycle with a skeleton riding it and there was a bicycle that was at ground level for children to ride on and when you ride it the skeleton riding the other bike starts moving it’s legs and it seemed to catch everyone's attention cause it looks like its going to fall.

Then came the exciting bit, we were going to the STEM lab. Inside the STEM lab there were lots of roller coaster tracks and some other bits and bobs. Fatima was our STEM lab instructor and she said that we were going to be making a rollercoaster and I teamed up with some of my best friends Justin and Xavier. The construction materials that we had to use were a long piece of track, 4 tunnels, 1 metre of tape, and three giant LEGO blocks. As soon as we started we were lining up the long piece of track and then we started curving and bending it to make the craziest and the most frightening rollercoaster EVER!!! We also had to make a loop or some kind of loop but when I was trying to make the loop it actually bent and made a sick corkscrew and no one had done one that works! And we also had a braking system that wasn't as good as the corkscrew though because everyone had to have one.

Soon after that we had to go back to school but even though we had to go it would never drain out of my mind. You should definitely 100% go to Science Works.
