Religion Education Focus: A Community That Celebrates God’s Love
In the second half of the term, K/1 have been focusing on the theme of Church. The literal meaning of the Hebrew and Greek words translated into English as church is “assembly.” Not only is the church the place where we gather as a community, but as the family of God, we ourselves are the Church.
We have been learning about key signs and symbols of the Catholic tradition and recognising some of its rituals, such as singing and praying. As you can see from the photos, our learning has centred on rituals including the celebration of the Eucharist and Baptisms. We visited the church to observe the stained-glass windows, name objects used in the Eucharistic celebration, and identify features of the church building.
We also learned the story of the Good Shepherd and came to understand that we are Jesus’ sheep. In addition, we had the wonderful opportunity to interview Father Brancik about his ministry, life, and work.
