Year 8 Humanities - Kryal Castle Excursion
Our Year 8 Humanities students recently travelled to Kryal Castle in Ballarat, where a sunny but brisk day set the scene for stepping back into medieval times as part of their current study of Medieval European History. Students enjoyed learning sword skills, trying out siege techniques, and discovering the lives of peasants and nobles - including the harsh realities of crime and punishment in the Middle Ages. A highlight was the manorial court role plays, where students took on different characters and acted out medieval justice. Many said their favourite parts were the sword training and getting into character during the court scenes.

Year 11 VCE VM Students Build Their First Table
In Week 5, our Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students proudly completed the construction of their very first table. This hands-on project gave students the chance to apply key skills such as measuring, cutting, assembling, and working safely with a range of tools and materials.
Guided by the expertise of Mr. Villani, the class worked step by step through the design and build process, growing in confidence as their skills developed. The finished tables are not only practical pieces of furniture but also a lasting reminder of the students’ effort, teamwork, and achievement.
Sneak Peak- New Footscray Hospital
On Wednesday 3rd September Melissa Horne MP invited a small group of Altona College students to tour the new Footscray Hospital.
Students who are interested in studying in the health care industry got a sneak peak of the grounds and buildings, as well as the main hospital entrance and a tour of a ward. The students were greatly impressed by the design of the hospital, lots of green spaces, light, curved walls and a huge tapestry representing the reeds in the Maribyrnong River which will eventually take pride of place in the foyer. Students admired the expansive views on the 8th floor ward and were impressed with the world class technology health care professionals will be able to use to monitor and discuss patient progress.
The students had a chance to discuss their future aspirations with Melissa Horne M, and it was great to hear the optimism regarding the opportunities to work at the new Footscray Hospital in years to come.
Overall, it was a great experience, and we look forward to the hospital opening in February 2026.
Food Technology
This week, our Year 7 students completed their CAT Breakfast Design Cook-Off in Food Design Technology- demonstrating their skills by cooking eggs in a variety of ways. There was plenty of experimenting and learning along the way, and the final dishes looked just as beautiful as the effort behind them!
Our Year 10 students worked their magic in the sugar preservation lesson, transforming pears, mangoes, apples, and strawberries into vibrant fruit rolls. Not only did they look stunning, but they were bursting with flavour — colourful, chewy, and absolutely
irresistible!
