Book Review by Alodia
Skydragon 1 is an awesome adventure book set in a town called Woodville. The story follows Amber, who has to avoid enemies and learn how to use her special powers.
The main characters are Amber, her brother Reggie, her guardian Irene, her friend Justin, and two agents named Ferris and Scarlett Stewart. When Amber was eight, a meteor crashed into her house. It destroyed her home, killed her parents, and her brother Reggie went into a coma. Amber got badly hurt too, with burns and trauma. Now that she’s older, she finds out she can control and talk to insects, which helps her deal with lots of challenges.
Alodia thinks this book is great for kids in Grade 2 to Grade 6. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars!
Red Cross Visit
Last Wednesday the Year 3/4's were lucky enough to have a visit from the Red Cross, where they participated in a disaster resilience workshop called the ‘Pillowcase Program’ which is delivered by Red Cross volunteers. The workshop is to help students prepare for, cope with and respond to emergencies. Students participated in a number of different activities; one which included trying to decide which 8 items would be most important to have with them in an emergency. Students also decorated a pillowcase, with the purpose of the pillowcase being an easy to grab item that can hold lots of things, which anyone can pack in a hurry. Students are now encouraged to act as advocates for emergency preparedness in their homes and wider communities.
