From the Leadership Team
Welcome to Term 3! We have had an extremely settled start to the term and it has been great to connect with our students about their holidays.
A special big welcome to our new Preschool children and mid-year reception students. Seeing our new students connect to their learning environments has been wonderful, as well as making new friends and settling into Modbury School P-6. We know they will thrive with their learning here at Modbury School.
A special congratulations to our entire Modbury community! When I meet with new families who are looking to enrol their children at our school, I ask about why they would like to join our Modbury community, the response from families is due to our wonderful reputation, and how kind, inclusive and caring our students are. That is such positive feedback to receive as the Principal, and I am so proud to be part of this wonderful community.
NAPLAN - Year 3 and 5
We have received our NAPLAN results for our Year 3 and 5 students. As a school, we are very pleased with the overall results and will use the data obtained to further shape the focus for teaching and learning across the school in the coming years.
Our Year 3 and 5 students will be bringing home their results to share with their families. It should be remembered that standardised testing is only one of the ways in whcih student learning is gauged, and it should not replace the ongoing assessment taken by their teachers at school throughout the course of the whole year.
Farewell to Liz Allen
At the end of last term, we farewelled Liz Allen. This was a wonderful celebration of Liz's career with the Department for Education and we sent her off in style as she participated in a cruise around the school, visiting many holiday destinations with our students. We wish Liz all the best in her well-deserved retirement.
Preschool Graduation
We celebrated our graduating Preschool children at the end of last term in a lovely ceremony in our Preschool. Our graduating children were certainly ready to take their next step in the educational journey and start Term 3 as a new Reception students. We wish them all the best as they start as a new Reception.
Olivia's Kindy Art Show
Our Preschool children were able to showcase their artwork in the recent 'Olivia's Kindy Art Show' at the CTTG Library. Look at their amazing artwork!
OSHC Educators Day 2024
National Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) Educators' Day is the national annual day for celebrating the importance of OSHC educators across Australia. This year, OSHC Educators' Day falls on 31 July 2024 and we will be celebrating the positive impact that our OSHC educators have on the lives of children, young people and their families. If you see any of our OSHC staff, please wish them a wonderful OSHC Educators Day.
OSHC Charity Donations
Our students and OSHC Educators have collecting cans and bottles since May to raise money so they can purchase donations for CANTEEN. Our OSHC students were able to raise $120 form their collection of cans and bottles.
The OSHC students created a list of items they wanted to purchase and donate to CANTEEN. These will be handed over to CANTEEN this afternoon and we know that the families will appreciate this gesture of support during difficult times.
Thank you and well done to our OSHC students for this kindness and generosity. We are incredibly proud of you.
Facilities Update
Over the holidays we had some maintenace in our school yard and preschool occur. Our wooden structures have now been oiled and repaired (if necessary), and are looking refreshed, ready for our children to enjoy.
Father's Day
We will be offering a Father's Day stall in Week 6, and you will be able to purchase Father's Day Modbury dollars via Qkr! for your child to spend at the stall. This will be available on Qkr! from today. We will arrange for the Modbury dollars to be given to the classroom teacher on the day. We will be unable to provide refunds for money not spent at the stall.
Book Week
We will be celebrating Book Week in Week 5 with our Book Week Parade on Tuesday 20th August. This year's theme is 'Reading is Magic'. We look forward to seeing your child participate in our Book Week parade.
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day
August 4 is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. This is an important chance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to celebrate their children, and for non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians to reflect on how they acknowledge, celebrate and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.
This year’s Children’s Day recognises the important role that family, community, country and culture play in the lives and development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. The theme this year is “We play. We learn. We belong.” We play on our land. We learn from our ancestors. We belong with our communities.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day has been held on 4 August every year since bicentennial protests were held in 1988 and was established to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their unique and ongoing connection to their culture and country.
Warm regards,
Sara, Ali and Sheila.
