AFL WITH BEN McGLYNN

A Year 9 PE class was coached by Ben McGlynn in Australian rules football skills. It was a privilege to have Ben who has worked so hard and played so successfully at the highest level to visit the college and coach our students. A wonderful learning opportunity.

DIVISION 1 GIRLS NETBALL

The Division 1 Girls netball team shone brightly on Wednesday 19 June. With outstanding wins against all schools, their greatest threat came down to the very last game, against Irymple Secondary College.

A tight and low scoring contest, goal for goal the whole game until the dying minute, the girls dug deep. Capitalising on turnovers and intercepts, they were able to secure an exciting win by three points.

Throughout all the matches, the strong defense by Chloe Copley and Imogen Gowers, backed up by the skills of Mackenzie Smith, had a major impact in turnovers. The unbeatable speed of Harper Roberts, Mia Hards, and Maya DeRosa made for exciting zips down the court. The likes of Liv Fitzgerald, Lucy O’Bryan, and Alice Siale all held strong or drove in hard to the goal and did nothing but shoot with incredible accuracy to make every single goal count.

These girls will be an incredible team as they progress to the next stage, the Loddon-Mallee Regional competition on 25 July. (Keep reading for more.)

MVP: Alice Siale

Coaches Award: Chloe Copley

DIVISION 2 GIRLS NETBALL

The Division 2 Girls netball team only further enhanced the fine sporting talent of the college, with outstanding wins against all teams, winning the Division 2 competition.

Thanks to Isabelle Collins and Mimi Curran for coaching.

This team was incredibly adaptable. Everyone played their part no matter the position. They played with poise, strength, fun, and respect.

MVP: Indianna Morello

Coaches Award: Kaleista Burton

YEAR 8 BOYS NETBALL

What an exciting line-up! The boys trained hard for weeks leading up to the big day, and they were incredible at adapting. Although they made wins on the day, the glory was not theirs at the end: a couple of losses took the team's chances of making it to the next stage.

Our goalies Paddy O’Bryan and Will Siale were incredible under the ring, alongside the perfect combination of James Clay, Jack Floyd, and Jack Healy working hard to feed in passes. Tom O’Callaghan’s incredible performance in Centre was exciting to watch. Marly Pengelly, Biagio Tabacco, and Alby Woollard all worked tirelessly in defence at every single opportunity.

Thanks to Sofia Tabacco for helping me coach.

YEAR 7 BOYS SOCCER

It was a good day for the team in Euchua. The team lost 1–0 in their first game (to the eventual champions), won the second game 3–1, and lost the last game 2–0. A lovely dry first game, then the weather set in and was quite wet in games two and three. Excellent playing, boys!

YEAR 8 GIRLS SOCCER – LMR

The first game versus Bendigo ended 0–0. In their second game against St Joseph's Echuca, the team won 0–4. The girls will now progress to the State Championship in September. Well done, girls!

LMR FOOTBALL

YEAR 7 BOYS

The boys lost all their games. However, they tried their best and had a great time on the field.

YEAR 9 GIRLS

The girls played their best, but lost all their games against St Joseph's College Echuca, Swan Hill College, and Catherine McAuley College Bendigo. Even so, they also had fun and proudly represented the college.

LMR NETBALL

Off we went, bright and early, to Bendigo with five talented netball teams. Despite the cold and wet conditions, all students performed well against some tough opposition.

YEAR 7 GIRLS

The talents of Olivia Alvey, Macy Andriske, Ellie Faulkhead, Alana Chatfield, Ava Delorenzo, Niamh Fush, Evie Johnston, Remi McClelland, Grace Lay, and Cleo Smith performed well against some tough teams. A great effort!

YEAR 8 GIRLS

The girls took on the cold and wet conditions, making normal steady hands and bodies cold and numb. The non-stop defensive efforts by Chloe Copley, Mackenzie Smith, and Imogen Gowers made life incredibly difficult for their opponents. –Plenty of intercepts and rebounds! Alice Siale and Livi Fitzgerald pushed height and strength into the goals to secure goals and wins. They were backed up by Lucy O’Bryan who provided speed and in goals and adaptability by playing in the mid-court when needed. Credit to our mid-court ladies, who can turn from attack mode to defence mode in an instant. Peggy Thornton and Mia Hards pushed second efforts at vital moments. Harper Roberts and Maya DeRosa read each play, each controlling every pass to the girls in the ring. A deep and strong team respect and morale allowed these girls to shine.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS

The girls were superstars and fought hard during both their games, with Juliet Leng and Romy Wescombe controlling play throughout the midcourt. Eadie Cardew, Elke Meehan, and Indi Avery worked hard in defence to pick off as many intercepts and rebounds as possible. Delaney Shiner, Isla Taylor, and Charlotte Littore all shot accurately against some tough defenders, with the SJC girls losing both games by minimal margins. A fantastic effort!

INTERMEDIATE BOYS

The boys were an athletic but inexperienced team. Logan King and Tom Ough provided 'tall timber' in defence, grabbing plenty of rebounds. The midcourt consisted of Anthony Fordham, Phoenix Hemming, Darcy Collins, and Lincoln Fazulla, who all worked hard against skilled opposition. Sioeli Fangaloka, Noah James, and Oliver Welsh did well in goals. The boys showed plenty of heart, but didn’t manage a win in their three games.

SENIOR BOYS

The boys were quietly confident despite this being their first outing as a team. Zac DeRosa linked up well with Jagar Guthrie, Will Floyd, and the Lihou twins, Jobe and Cruz, to control the midcourt and provide the goalers with plenty of opportunities. Zeth Thompson and River Southwell were unstoppable in goals, dropping them in from all areas of the ring. Darcy Toms and Bailey McLaughlan were an absolute brick wall in defense. The teamwork and skill was VERY impressive, and the team have now qualified for the State Finals in Melbourne in September.

A big thank-you to our umpires Erin Fush, Alex Clifford, and Charlize Paterson, as well as to coaches Molly McDonald and Ashleigh Goss. And finally to Miss Airlie Arnold for her organisation and assistance on the day.
