AFTER-SCHOOL FLOURISH (STUDY SUPPORT) PROGRAM
Did you know that St Joseph's College runs an after-school study support program?
Here are five important things you may not be aware of:
- The after-school Flourish program runs in the College Library Monday to Thursday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
- Plenty of support is available. On Monday to Thursday from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, there are a minimum of five teaching/LSO staff who are ready and waiting for all those inquiring minds to come through the door. We have plenty of hands on deck to enable one-on-one targeted support for individual students as needed.
- Flexibility. Students can either simply turn up or make an appointment/book in so as to lock in one-on-one support for their studies.
- In addition to the above, English tutoring is on Tuesdays 3:30pm to 4:00pm, AND Maths tutoring (where things always add up!) for all year levels is on Wednesdays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.
- On Mondays from 3:30pm to 4:30pm we run a session specifically targeting Years 7–9 Maths support.
We look forward to seeing students flourish with a little help from Flourish after-school study support.
EISTEDDFOD – CHOIR
The St Joseph’s College Choir boarded the bus to travel to the Mildura Art Centre for the annual Mildura Eisteddfod on Thursday 20 June. The excited group were keen to get on stage to sing and share two pieces for the audience and the adjudicator.
Led by Ms Catherine Hall, our Choir performed beautifully and won first place for their efforts. It was so nice to see them on stage competing and enjoying what they love to do.
Congratulations to all involved for this great achievement.

TEXTILES
Year 7 students used paper to drape designs on mannequins in class. The cocktail dress on the left was designed by Addison Foley and Mia Haynes. The ruffled cocktail dress on the right was designed by Rose Marciano and Xena Daga-Ang. Budding fashion designers for sure!
The Year 9 class got creative using stencils to create an amazing array of unique and fun cushions to finish off the term.

AMSSA CONFERENCE BENDIGO
20 of 54 Mercy schools in Australasia were represented at this year's conference, mostly from Victoria but also from South Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland. The conference is the first to be held since the covid pandemic, so there was a real sense of enthusiasm and hope.
Two Year 10 students, Mayvelyne Masabal and Nathasha Allieu, were the college's delegates and were wonderful ambassadors.
The conference was action-packed, and included speakers, workshops, and excursions throughout Bendigo and its surrounds, including a visit down a gold mine, gold panning, Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, and dinner at the Bendigo Town Hall.
One of the keynote speakers was Sr Sally Bradley, Executive Director of Mercy Works. She gave an inspiring talk to the students about her personal Mercy journey, 'The Clay in God's hands'. Sr Bradley also explained more about the sustainability work that Mercy Works does in Australia, PNG, the Philippines, and Timor Leste. Sr Sally was very articulate about the fact that, 'The poor need help today and not next week.' – This is Mercy in action, as Catherine McAuley herself advocated so long ago.

PROCEDURE FOR STUDENTS WHEN UNWELL WHILE AT SCHOOL
There are increasing numbers of students who contact parent/guardians themselves when they feel unwell and want to go home from school, bypassing the First Aid Office. Students must comply with the college's guidelines on reporting illness to ensure student safety. These guidelines enable the college to adhere to child safety standards and reinforce the college's Student Mobile Technology Policy.
Students should not be contacting parents or guardians themselves.
Not only does this breach the mobile phone policy, but it causes difficulties when trying to locate the unwell student.
If a student is unwell at school:
- The student is to attend the First Aid Office where the College Nurse or First Aid Officer will assess the student.
- If the student needs to go home, contact will be made to the parent/guardian or emergency contact that is listed in the student’s contacts on PAM. The college will not be able to contact anyone outside of this listing, so please ensure all student contacts are up to date.
- The parent/guardian or emergency contact must come into the student office to collect the unwell student.*
*Students in Year 7–10 must be collected from front reception. Upon your arrival, reception will notify First Aid that you have arrived and will send your child over for collection.
*Students in Year 11 and 12 may leave the college grounds through front reception once permission has been granted by parent/guardian.
