All about Newlands - Written by the 1/2s

This term our 1/2 students have been exploring information reports in English and Spanish. They are super excited to show off their understanding of subheadings, facts and writing sentences to share everything they know about Newlands. The students worked in small groups to create a paragraph for each subheading.1/2AB have turned their Newlands Information Report into a social story to help welcome new students.

Museum of Play and Art

Two weeks ago, the 1/2's visited MoPA, the museum of play and art. It was a super fun day where we were able to explore museum exhibitions involving interactive artwork, stories, movement through exploration and creative and critical thinking games. Hopefully our students are feeling inspired to create their own class museum about their chosen country that we have been working on in Inquiry.

Reminders:

  • A Parent helper survey was sent out on Friday. Please fill out the form to inform teachers of your availability. A finalised timetable will be sent out via Sentral in the last week of Term.
  • A friendly reminder about the importance of our take home reading program. Students are encouraged to change their readers weekly (or as needed!) This includes 3 English books and 3 Spanish books. We topped up our take home readers at the beginning of this year with some fabulous brand new books and a lot of books have not been returned or swapped regularly. Please help us in building positive routines and independence with home reading by encouraging your child to read their levelled books each night apack their readers into their school bags.
  • In addition to tangible books, we highly encourage students to use RazKids for Spanish readers and Nessy for English reading/spelling.
