Joel’s Work Experience Northcote Library

By Zackariya Khalil

Throughout the previous five weeks, Joel of Year 10 successfully completed his work experience at Darebin Library in Northcote. He was responsible for a range of duties, whether it be tidying up the Children’s area or shelving endless trollies of adult fiction novels. Joel remained committed and effortlessly developed an efficient routine to shelve as many books as possible.

Indeed, it was a heart-warming experience to see Joel engage in work within the local community, and to connect with both library staff and visitors. Such an experience would not have been successful without the assistance of our schools Learning Support Officers, Joel’s carer and the library staff. Their kind, and positive demeanour permitted an inviting working environment, in which Joel thrived. In the future, we hope to see Joel gain a permanent position as an employee of the library. As proven by his placement, he was a valuable and hardworking employee. Yet again, this is another example of our students' commitment to be active learners within and beyond Reservoir High School. Ultimately, it is in instances like this, in which we are reminded of the limitless capabilities of our students.
