Principal's Report

A message from the Principal

Dear Students, Parents and Families,

Term 2 can be characterised as one of productivity, focus and positivity. Over the past few weeks our students have been focused on completing assessments and exams and we have also had the opportunity to come together to celebrate our students and school community.

Our Cultural Diversity Week is a very special time when we come together to celebrate what makes Reservoir High School so special. The whole-school Cultural Diversity Week Assembly held last Monday involved a traditional cultural dress fashion parade, a true highlight for all. In my Principal’s Address in the assembly I spoke about Reservoir High School being the true embodiment of inclusion. We actively celebrate the differing views and contributions of the varied members of our community, while maintaining respect and celebrating each of our differences. Our four School Captains shared their stories of their culture and traditions and all were captivating.

After many months of careful planning and ever-growing excitement, the Year 12 Formal took place on Friday 21st June at a new venue, The Lincoln of Toorak. The evening was a spectacular affair and our Year 12 students looked very glamourous and elegant. They thoroughly enjoyed celebrating together through the sharing of a meal, dancing to great music provided by the DJ and capturing memories to last a lifetime in the photo booth.

Year 10 Work Experience commenced this week, giving our students the opportunity to learn about the world of work and expectations of employers, explore and test different pathway possibilities and experience their learning in a real-life context. This will assist our students in making meaningful and informed decisions about their future pathways which they do in the Course Counselling process in early Term 3. I personally sign every Work Experience Agreement form and I was impressed at the breadth of work placements secured by our students, indicating a thoughtfulness in our Year 10’s as to possible future career pathways.

Semester 1 Reports will be made available this Friday, 28th of June. Our hybrid Online and Onsite Parent/Teacher interviews will follow on Thursday 1st August and I would encourage all parents and guardians to arrange an appointment with their child’s teachers. The creation of a partnership between the school, the student and the parent is integral in ensuring success in education and this partnership is fostered through regular meetings. Please take the opportunity to meet with each teacher and explore your child’s achievements and areas for further growth.

Can I please remind our families that from the start of Semester 2, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 are able to wear their PE uniform to and from school on the days in the fortnight cycle that they have a practical PE lesson where they are engaged in physical activity in the Stadium.

It is very important that all students understand they are only permitted to wear their PE uniform on the day in which they have a practical PE lesson and not on the days that students are learning PE in the classroom. Students must wear the full PE uniform, including the school approved PE top, navy shorts or navy tracksuit pants. All items of our PE uniform must be purchased from our uniform supplier, Academy Uniforms. Bike shorts, leggings, hoodies and any brand name shorts or tracksuit pants are not allowed.

I wish all of our students and families an enjoyable and restful break. Use this time to re-connect with one another, to rest and recharge ready for Semester 2.
