Reconciliation Week Didgeridoo Australia Incursion

National Reconciliation Week is held every year from the 27th of May to the 3rd of June. These dates remain the same every year because it commemorates two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey:

  • the successful 1967 referendum
  • the 1992 High Court Mabo decision.

To take a step towards reconciliation, Jade, our Indigenous Leader arranged a number of activities and events to enable us as a college to explore the culture of our First Nation Peoples.

On Monday 3rd June the Year 7, 9, 10 and 11 students had the privilege of having renowned didgeridoo player Ganga Giri perform. During his performance, he explained how he incorporated Aboriginal culture into modern music. He also demonstrated how land is respected and how significant it is to his culture.

A number of Aboriginal artefacts were also shared and engaging stories were told.
