Ryan’s Rambling

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

With Winter well and truly showing its true colours this week, I hope that the children haven’t been too tired when they have arrived home after school. Wednesday morning’s drive to school was a picturesque frost along with minus five degrees. Brrr!

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been promoting how our words have power. At assemblies we have been discussing the importance of using this power entrusted to us for good; to make the world a better place. It has been nice to hear the students using their power for kindness in the classroom and in the yard. We also introduced the Kindness Scale, which is a great conversation starter for children to reflect on their words and the effect it has on others.

Sadly, this week, one of our families became victim to some considerably abhorrent and illegal online behaviours. This was all via the Snapchat platform. Below is a great article explaining Snapchat along with a guide for parents.

I need to stress, the online behaviours I am referring to can happen to anyone; even those, as is with the case I am referring to, who come from loving, nurturing homes. The very best advice I can give is to keep technology away from bedrooms, especially at night.

Many of us didn’t grow up with mobile phones, and our children are attempting to navigate this complex world and need our support, love and guidance.  If you have concerns about your child’s safety and need some support, please reach out to us at school.

Further advice for parents can also be found on the esafety website. There are a number of great articles and detailed advice about what to do when certain situations arise.

One week to go until holidays. Our staff and students will most certainly be looking forwards to a well-earned break. Student Led Conferences are happening on Wednesday next week and we look forward to celebrating our students’ learning together. A reminder that the Student Led Conferences are being set up for our students to showcase their achievements across the semester. If you have any concerns about your child’s report or wish to discuss other matters, please contact us and make an appointment separately.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone.

Ryan 😊
