Carlsruhe Annexe /

Main Campus - Year 4

Welcome to Term 3!

There was great excitement as we welcomed our 4 new guinea pigs to Carlsruhe last week. The Year 4 students enthusiastically worked through the process of collecting ideas for names and then voting on the shortlisted names using Google Forms. As the votes came in live, we were able to see how they changed the Pie-chart representations in real-time. We would not be surprised if the cheers were heard right across Woodend as the final results were confirmed. Here are some photos of Panda, Milo, Cinnamon and Chestnut receiving special cuddles along with Popcorn and Cookie.

A big thank you to all the parents and grandparents who have been able to volunteer to support the Thursday Activity program at Carlsruhe, we could not run these activities without you! If you can help, please contact your child’s teacher or class rep. During this rotation, students will take part in cooking, designing a new veggie garden, weaving, building wooden pencil cases or boats, creating pictures from curled paper (quilling) and exploring Ikebana floral designs.

On Friday, Carlsruhe will host a film crew from Seven Networks ‘The House of Wellness’ as we share some of the experiences of our wonderful campus.

This term, students will compare plants and animals across different countries in Australia, South America and Africa and work collaboratively to create encyclopedia reports to share their knowledge and understanding. We have begun by investigating types of biomes and mapping their location across the world. Here are some samples of our work.

Over the next few weeks, students will also have the opportunity to present their Sustainability Flipbooks from last term to other students before bringing them home to share with you. Students used a range of creative formats and colourful designs to present their learning on this topic.
