Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Despite last Friday's weather, five of our students braved the conditions to compete in the Regional Athletics finals in Wodonga.  While the conditions were challenging, the students were justifiably proud of their achievement.  After coming first in discus, Eli will now go on to compete in the State Finals, in Early November.  Congratulations to all students on their acheivement and our best wishes to Eli as he takes on the next level of competition.

Today, students in Years 5&6 had the opportunity to participate in a Cyber-Safety session led by Senior Constable, Hayley McDonald from Wangaratta Police.  The focus of this session was to make students aware of how they can keep themselves safe when they are working in online environments, particularly if they are engaging in online community environments, where they may be communicating with people they don't know.   During this time, some of our Year 4 students, spent time on the eSafety Kids website, which is also a great tool for families.

The final kinder visit was held today, with several Year 5 students accompanying Ellen, to spend time getting to know the kinder children as they played leggo, puzzles and other construction activities together.  The children all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were sad to leave.

On Tuesday, 12th November, the Kinder Group will have their first visit to school.

Tomorrow is World Teacher's Day! On behalf of us all, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our teachers for all that they do for our students.  I am extremely privileged and proud to work with this amazing team of teachers and education support staff, who work so hard every day to provide our students with the best opportunities possible. I know their efforts are greatly appreciated by our community and I cannot stress enough, how much they are valued.

Next Friday, 1st November, our school will have the opportunity to work with Tennis Victoria, who are visiting Mount Beauty with the Australian Open Tennis Trophies.  Tennis Victoria will attend our Friday morning assembly for a brief presentation, which will be followed with an opportunity for families to take photos of the trophies.  Many thanks to Kathryn for liasing with Tennis Victoria, to provide this opportunity.  From recess, all students will also have the opportunity to participate in some free tennis sessions.  To mark this special event, students are invited to come dressed as their favourite tennis player or sports person, and to bring a gold coin donation to help us upgrade or replace some of our sports equipment.

A reminder to families that Monday 4th November is a Curriculum Planning Day for all staff and a pupil free day for students.  OSHC will be running for families who require childcare on this day.  Please note that there will be no school or OSHC on Tuesday 5th November, due to the Melbourne Cup holiday.
