English Update

Last week Literacy consultant Stephen Graham visited us at Mackellar again. The focus of Stephen’s latest visit was Speaking and Listening, and he worked with our staff and students to develop and implement oral language assessments in each year level.

Stephen worked with students to develop an oral talk based on their current text type unit. Our students practised using palm cards to record notes, following the structure and vocabulary relevant to the text type. Students then delivered their talks to the class, focusing on using appropriate volume, maintaining eye contact, speaking clearly and fluently, whilst demonstrating appropriate body language to engage their audience. 

Our students across the school did a fantastic job delivering their talks and Stephen was very impressed with their efforts. We look forward to continuing to provide regular opportunities for our students to practise their Speaking and Listening skills to develop confidence speaking to an audience.
