Well done to the Chief Exam Supervisor, Cathy Gunn, and her team for making sure that the exam space was ready to go on Tuesday morning. This enabled the Unit 3 and 4 exam period to begin smoothly and successfully for all students when they turned up for the first exam - English. Thanks also to Lisa Bowring and Jarrah Brennan for making sure all necessary items were at the exam centre to allow for the set up. The students seemed pretty happy with the English exam and there will be a steady stream of students attending from now until the end of the exam period, which finishes on the 20th November. I’d also like to wish good luck to all the students sitting these exams, as we have a number of Year 11 students who have accelerated into a Unit 3 and 4 subject this year.
After a number of years with our current cleaning provider, the contract is ending at the end of this year and it is time to put the contract out for tender. I’d like to thank our current providers for all their efforts over the years, as their work is often a thankless task, with many of their tasks generally going unnoticed by the majority of our school users.
Advertisements will go in local publications shortly.
Laura Roberts, our student teacher in PE, Outdoor Ed and Humanities, finishes her 4 week placement with us this week. Laura spent her time observing and then teaching a range of classes, including planning the lessons with support from the usual classroom teachers.
Lisa Bowring’s last day will be Wednesday 6th. Lisa’s efforts, mainly in the Maths Learning Area will be missed, as her understanding of numeracy learning, right back to primary school years, meant that she was able to identify those key missing concepts in her students and then help to support them. Lisa is leaving to begin her career change, away from classroom teaching.
We wish both Lisa and Laura all the best and know that they will be successful in their next ventures.
Monday 4th November, the day before the Melbourne Cup Public Holiday, is a student free day. This last student free day for the year is being used by teachers as a whole school Professional Practice Day, where the teachers will work on planning, preparation, curriculum development, assessment and reporting of student learning and collaboration. Teachers do not get a report writing day this semester, like they do in Semester 1, so this is a timely opportunity to be able to get ahead of this important process.
