The Fire Carrier Program
The Fire Carrier Program was on Tuesday the 15th of October. We walked down to the lake so we could take the bike track to the frog pond. You're probably wondering what the frog pond is. The frog pond is an area where there is sand under you, and you sit on huge logs. Troy Firebrace he explained what they were doing to the creek to help it. They are using rocks to filter the creek and to bring more wildlife back.
Before we left school, we learnt what FIRE meant it means:
F(Friends)
I(Igniting)
R(Reconciliation)
E(In Education)

The Grade 5 students recently participated in a Fire carriers' workshop in preparation for leadership roles in Grade 6. It was a workshop where the Grade 5 unit walked to the Frog Ponds near lake Weeroona and we learnt about the indigenous work and about the frog ponds and what they do to help clean the Bendigo creek. The creek changes from concrete to a natural creek and if you can hear the frogs that means the quality of the water in the ponds is clean. We had a wander around the area and looked at the signs that showed information about the indigenous work and the program. We had a talk with Mikaila and Troy from CES and they told us about the land around us. Before we went back to school, we did an activity about our culture and about ourselves. We also learnt that you could tell where we are by looking at the trees that we can find in the area. At school we did a drawing of what we did using indigenous symbols. After we finished our drawings, we showed each other and discussed what our drawings represented.
