The Preps have been diving into the concept of capacity, which means how much a container can hold. They learned to use the terms "small capacity" and "large capacity" to describe everyday containers like swimming pools, lakes, bathtubs, teaspoons, coffee cups, and drink bottles.
In class, several students sorted containers into groups based on their capacity, sharing their reasoning as they did so. They had a great time pouring water between different-sized containers, which helped them see and understand the capacity of each one.
The students also practiced using words like "full," "empty," and "almost half full" to describe the amount of liquid in the containers. This hands-on exploration made learning about capacity fun and engaging!
Royal Botanic Gardens Cranborne excursion
On Wednesday, the junior school had a wonderful day at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens, where we connected with nature and learned about Aboriginal culture. The day was full of exciting experiences that helped us appreciate our environment.
We had a guided tour and information session by Aboriginal Elders, who shared stories about traditional hunting tools and clothing. They taught us how important it is to respect and care for the land we live on.
A special treat was tasting lemon myrtle tea, which was refreshing and introduced us to some unique Australian flavours. We also had fun making symbols with ochre, which allowed us to express our appreciation for Indigenous culture in a creative way.
As we walked through the beautiful gardens, we recognised the presence of God in the stunning surroundings, which made the experience even more special.
This trip was not just about learning; it was also a chance to connect with nature and each other. We left the gardens feeling grateful for the beauty and rich culture we learned about.
