CHS Basketball Knockout

Our U15 Girls Basketball team has spent the start of this week in Sutherland playing in the Final 8 of the state in the CHS knockout.

Their first game was against tournament favourites, and consistent gold medallists, Westfields Sports High School. The girls played a good game but were just outplayed by a rep heavy opposition. The final score was 47-27.

The girls next game was against Bathurst High for a place in the final 4 tomorrow. A high energy start with a lot more talk saw the girls jump out of the blocks leading 16-2 at quarter time. They continued the pressure on the ball into the second quarter to hold a 32-6 lead at the main break as the girls headed to oranges. An even 3rd quarter with rolling subs had the girls still holding a relatively comfortable 41-15 advantage at the break before setting the cruise control and rolling to a 50-24 victory.

Finals day at the U15 Girls knockout started with a Top 4 clash against the undefeated Hunter Sports High School. Hunter expected an easy win but that was never going to happen. The fast running Yetis started with high energy and ran, and ran and ran for the whole game. Trailing 6-7 at quarter time put belief into the girls that an upset was possible. The girls continued their high tempo game into the second quarter to tie the game at 18-18 at half time. Game on. The back and forth continued through the third to see the game still tied at 27-27 with one quarter to go. The girls led at various times throughout the final quarter but with 10 seconds to go Hunter scored a final basket to go up 36-35. The girls tried to regain the lead but the clock beat them. This was a disheartening loss, so close to the gold medal game, but the girls should be very proud for the style and tenacity they showed throughout the game. To push the Sports High school to within 10 seconds of a victory is an amazing effort for our little bunch of Yetis!!

A Bronze medal clash against Terrigal High school seen the girls go down 45 - 38 and finishing 4th in the state.

NHS are exceptionally proud of the girls and their tremendous efforts over the last few days.
