Mindful Monsters – Vacationing Victor
The Mindful Monsters Program is a Mindfulness program which uses memorable monster characters to help us learn portable techniques for calming the body and focusing the mind.
This week’s Mindful Monster is Vacationing Victor.
When Victor is feeling stressed or overwhelmed, he takes a few moments to cast his mind to memories of favourite places he enjoys. He thinks about what the surroundings look like, who else might be there and what he enjoys about the environment. Sometimes Victor imagines places he has never been to but would like to visit – and thinks in detail about what it would be like to be there.
Sometimes Victor uses his imagination to create a safe and enjoyable space – like his very own treehouse or a trip to another galaxy or imaginary land.
Taking some time out to visualise a peaceful space or a place filled with positive memories can help to change Victor’s mood. Sometimes Victor finds it helpful to do some guided meditation where he listens to someone describing a peaceful place and allows them to take him on mindful journey.
Free apps like Smiling Mind have meditations for kids through to adults and are easily accessible and a great introduction to meditation. There are meditations for relaxation during the day and also for bedtime to help to quieten busy minds before sleep.
