Secondary News

Welcome back to Term 2. It’s great to see our students settling into their daily routines again and working diligently in class.
Congratulations to all the students in attendance at the Secondary Athletics Carnival last term. Last week we recognised the achievements of the many, many students who placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Almost half of the student body was represented. Congratulations to all the houses as well, as they progress through the year in friendly competition.
Many staff work hard to prepare and run the carnival, so we’re very grateful for their wonderful organisation with the day progressing smoothly.
Over 50 students represented us in Parkes for the Soccer Gala Day with great success and participation. Thank you to the teachers and students, and also for those who are competing in the local competitions and preparing for next level competitions.
Our re-scheduled Cross Country takes place on Tuesday in Week 3. Please see the communications from the College regarding this event.
We celebrated an Anzac Service at school on Friday last week, with a respectful acknowledgement and honouring of service and sacrifice. Many students represented the College on Anzac Day in the march and at the memorial service. Thank you to all for your contribution.
At our Assembly Worship service in Week 1, we heard from Pastor Tim Flint who challenged students to examine their ‘unthoughts’ – things you think without thinking you do. Our ‘unthoughts’ can have ramifications for our understanding of goals, meaning and the purpose of life. How does life work best? Students were introduced to the term ‘worldview’ – the lens through which you view life, including the ‘unthoughts’. Pastor Tim used the passage from John 14:1-9 to highlight Thomas’s question to Jesus ‘How can we know the way?’ to which Jesus responds, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life.’ Some interesting reflections can emerge from discussions about worldview – worth a chat around the dinner table.
Da Vinci Decathlon success!
We have several Secondary School teams competing in the regional da Vinci Decathlon competition this week. Already our Year 10 team have won their day – more details to come. Well done to all for your hard work to prepare and compete.
Coming up, students in Years 7-11 will undertake some exams in Week 5. Regular review, completing homework, and good eating/sleeping make a difference when preparing for assessment. Thank you for the support and accountability you provide at home as students make the most of their learning opportunities.
