Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding
Last Sunday, the College hosted the inaugural Marist Boarding Rugby Invitational Carnival for Under 12 teams. This was a really significant event and one that attracted several hundred visitors to the school. The day featured a Year 6 Marist team, coached by Mr Graham and Mr Lambourne, along with visiting teams from Dalby, Toowoomba (two teams), the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. Each team played three matches across the day. The carnival provided valuable preparation for teams as they begin their rugby season, including those heading to the Armidale Carnival during the Easter holidays. Players, coaches and families from visiting schools were very positive about the standard of our school facilities, the organisation of the event and the warm hospitality provided. Many left with a strong impression of Marist College Ashgrove and the opportunities available through our boarding program.
Thank you to Richard Graham for his significant work in coordinating the carnival and to Meagan Loane for all her work in planning and implementing the Carnival. I also extend my appreciation to the Services, Catering, Boarding, Marketing and Medical teams for their support in delivering what was a very successful day.
On Sunday, our boarding community gathered in the Marist Chapel for our weekly Mass. It was a particularly special gathering as we recognised Palm Sunday. We all gathered outside the Chapel where Father Alatini blessed the palms provided for the boarders and read the Gospel. The congregation then followed Father Alatini into the Chapel where we heard the passion reading and some great singing from the boys. It was a special Mass and the boarders were excellent with the way they observed and respected the occasion.
As we close in on the end of Term One, I’d like to extend my thanks to:
Our boarding parents, guardians and families for your support
I hope everyone has a restful, happy and safe holiday and I look forward to welcoming the boys back for Term 2.
