Year 5/6 News

Firstly, congratulations to our Year 5 students on completing their NAPLAN. They prepared well, had a go, and should be proud of the effort they put in.
Our Year 6 students proudly represented St Fidelis at Mass held at St Patrick’s Cathedral, demonstrating respect and reverence throughout the celebration.
As mathematical thinkers, we have begun learning about order of operations. Students were introduced to the idea that when solving number sentences with more than one operation, there is a specific order we follow to ensure we find the correct answer. We will continue practising this skill over the coming weeks as students build confidence solving more complex problems.
In Literacy, we have been learning how to include circumstances in our sentences. Students have been exploring how adding extra details, such as when, where, and how something happens, helps to create a clearer and more vivid picture for the reader. By expanding their sentences in this way, students are learning how to make their writing more engaging and descriptive.
We also explored the meaning of Harmony Week and our school’s Peace Pole. Students discussed what these symbols represent, including respect, inclusion and living peacefully with others. We connected this learning to the Peace Pole ceremony that took place on Friday. As part of this, students designed and created stamps that captured the meaning of harmony and peace. Next week, we will continue our learning by writing a letter reflecting on what the Peace Pole represents to us and how we can help promote peace and harmony in our school community.
Home Learning continues this week. This week’s Home Learning will be due this Friday the 27th. The answer sheet is attached please take some time to go through and correct the work with your child.
