Thirty students from Years 9–12 travelled to Kosciuszko National Park to complete the Adventurous Journey component of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. Over the course of five days, students were responsible for self-catering, planning and preparing their own meals while managing supplies and equipment in a remote environment.
Throughout the journey, students undertook a combination of day hikes and a mountain biking expedition, covering a total distance of just under 60 kilometres. This physically and mentally challenging experience required resilience, organisation and strong collaboration within their groups.
Students thrived in the alpine environment, developing valuable skills in campcraft, cooking in the outdoors, and maintaining minimal environmental impact. They also strengthened their navigation abilities through map reading and route planning, while building confidence and leadership through teamwork and shared decision making. Overall, the journey provided a rewarding and memorable experience that fostered independence, perseverance and resilience.
