From the Prefects...

Dear Kinross Wolaroi Families,

The Kinross Wolaroi School community is finishing the term with a bang as we head into the holiday season and begin preparing for Term 2. We are immensely proud of the grit, determination and overall growth of our students. Whether that be on the sporting field, in the classroom, or on the stage we have seen an exceptional array of achievements throughout this term.

If there is one aspect that seems to sit quietly behind our achievements this term it is GRIT. Grit is described as passion and perseverance for long term goals. It can be achieved quietly, as well as celebrated in front of a crowd. At the end of such a successful term, it is important that we recognise not only the major accomplishments, but also the quiet determination that made them possible.

Resilience and commitment have been an ongoing value represented throughout this first term that has led to outstanding accomplishments across a broad range of co-curricular pursuits. We have seen it within our sports, achieving gold within rowing, and our top Netball teams winning their recent TAS game. We have seen it throughout our music cohort, with an extremely successful music camp and high achievements in the recent Camerata competition. As well as our recent cadet camp, involving almost 50% of the school. Every challenge we have faced this term has contributed to a greater overall achievement, personal growth.

Our Principal, Mr Kelly, recently spoke to students about the importance of gratitude and taking time to recognise the people and opportunities around us. He encouraged students to reflect on the small things we often take for granted, such as the support of teachers, friends, and family, and the opportunities we have at school each day. Mr Kelly reminded students that showing gratitude can improve our mindset, strengthen relationships, and help create a positive school environment. He challenged everyone to make a conscious effort to say thank you, show appreciation, and focus on the positives in both school and life.

Mr Ronald also spoke to students about the SEARCH framework, which is used at our school to support and guide the wellbeing of both students and staff. He explained how the framework focuses on key areas that help individuals feel supported, connected, and able to thrive at school. Mr Ronald emphasised that wellbeing is not just about responding when something goes wrong, but about building positive relationships, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging. His presentation highlighted the importance of looking out for one another and using the SEARCH framework as a guide to help everyone in our school community feel supported and valued.

As a school community, we often celebrate achievement. But perhaps, as we close this term, we should also celebrate persistence. The quiet determination to keep improving. The courage to try again. The willingness to step outside of comfort zones. Because in the long run, it is not talent alone that leads to success it is consistency, effort, and the ability to keep moving forward, even when it’s hard. Looking ahead to the break, this is an opportunity not just to rest, but to reflect. Consider what challenged you this term and how you responded. Think about the moments where you showed grit even if no one else noticed them.

We wish everyone a restful and enjoyable break,

Kind Regards,

The Prefect Team
