On Tuesday 24 March, a strong group of 16 Kinross Wolaroi hockey players travelled to Pennant Hills to represent WAS at the AICES Hockey Championships.
The U15 girls had an outstanding day, finishing as AICES Champions. The Open boys faced strong competition and, with several younger players in the team, gained valuable experience throughout the day. The Open girls participated in individual trials, demonstrating skill and commitment in their performances.
All players contributed positively and should be proud of the way they represented both their school and WAS.
Following the day’s matches, teams were selected to represent AICES at the NSW CIS Hockey Championships. Congratulations to the following students who will compete at Moorebank early in Term 2:
U15 Girls: Miller Byrne, Laura Klein, Stella Mitchell, Isabelle Provost, Ingrid West, Mila Yabsley-Bell
Shadow: Josie Curry
Open Girls: Phoebe Hunter
Shadow: Clare Wood
We wish these students the very best at CIS.
It was a beautiful day for Rugby and Netball in Coonabarabran as Kinross Wolaroi School took on The Armidale School in a series of competitive and spirited fixtures. Across all matches, our students demonstrated not only strong performances on the field, but also outstanding sportsmanship. Regardless of the outcome, our players showed immense respect towards their opposition, reflecting the values of our rugby program and the wider school community. We would love to have another combined Netball and Rugby fixture once again in the near future. Special mentions to the following players who backed up from their game to assist in the older age groups: Ben T, Lyle R, Ollie C, Ollie F, and Jock S, great #Bluebeforeyou.
Results from the day were pleasing, with several strong performances across the age groups:
16A: Win, 28–24
Each team should be commended for their effort, discipline, and commitment throughout the fixtures. The close nature of several matches highlighted the competitiveness of the encounters and the growth of our players as the rugby season commences.
While our 3rd and 4th XV and B teams showed determination and grit playing Scots All Saints here at home, I would like to express my sincere pride in all students who turned up following a disjointed preparation in addition to a very demanding Cadet Camp.
Competing against 1st XV and A teams, our boys continued to show resilience, determination, and a willingness to work for one another throughout their matches. Their perseverance in tough circumstances is a strong testament to their character and commitment.
Two Blue Rugby would like to extend its sincere thanks to all coaching staff and referees who supported matches and trainings across multiple venues. A special thank you must go to the following individuals and groups for their invaluable assistance:
Looking ahead, the Girls Rugby draw is scheduled to be released over the Easter long weekend, so families and players are encouraged to stay tuned for further information.
Additionally, the 1st XV, 2nd XV, and 16As will attend a training camp here at Kinross Wolaroi from 15–17 April, in preparation for our upcoming fixture against The Shore School in Mudgee on 17 April.
Lastly, all players are encouraged to continue training over the Easter holidays. Our Head of Strength and Conditioning, Mr Rhodes Lea, will distribute a holiday training program shortly to assist players in maintaining and building their fitness and readiness for upcoming season.
Two Blue Rugby wishes everyone a happy and relaxing easter break.

A Season of Growth and Success – 2025/2026

Water Polo at Kinross Wolaroi has continued to build strong momentum this season, with four teams proudly representing the school in competition through the newly established Central West Water Polo Club. Expertly led by captains Mack Sweetapple and Clare Woods, the teams have demonstrated commitment, teamwork, and a genuine passion for the sport.
One of the most exciting highlights of the season has been the remarkable growth across all levels, from our junior players developing foundational skills to our senior athletes stepping up with confidence and leadership. The progress made by every team reflects not only their dedication but also the positive and supportive environment that has been created within the program.
A sincere thank you must go to our incredible coaching team - Gavin Pilossof, Poppy Crouch, and Mrs Katrina Flynn. Their knowledge, encouragement, and enthusiasm have played a vital role in shaping both the skills and spirit of our players. The time and energy they have invested throughout the season have not gone unnoticed and are deeply appreciated.
Several players have stood out for their performances, effort, and sportsmanship, including Luca Popa, Andrew Caskey, Fraser Johnstone, Hannah Cunningham, Natalie Hayward, Nancy Elliot, Harry Kensit, Austin Wark, Nick Sweetapple, Will Davis, and Issy Donald. Each of these students has contributed to the strength and success of the program in their own way, setting a great example for their peers.
Overall, it has been a fantastic season for Kinross Wolaroi Water Polo - one defined by growth, teamwork, and enthusiasm. We look forward to seeing this positive trajectory continue and to welcoming even more students into the sport in the seasons ahead.

It was such an incredibly rewarding day for our students as part of the Year 7 Try Sports program, with Waterpolo proving to be an engaging and memorable experience.
The day began in Room 85 with a special virtual session via Microsoft Teams featuring Olympic Silver Medallist Genevieve Longman Goalie from the Australian Woman’s Stingers team. Genevieve generously gave her time to speak with students, sharing insights into her journey and experiences at the 2024 Paris Olympics. A highlight for many was seeing her silver medal up close, which sparked great curiosity and led to some thoughtful student questions. The session was recorded and used to introduce each group throughout the day, setting an inspiring tone.

In the pool, students participated enthusiastically, developing basic skills and gaining a strong introduction to the sport. The positive energy and willingness to try something new were evident across all groups.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I hope this introduction to Waterpolo encourages strong student participation in the upcoming summer season.

Last week, a squad of 31 Kinross Wolaroi students travelled to Tasmania to compete at the Australian Rowing Championships, delivering one of the most outstanding performances in the program’s history.
The team returned with seven national medals—two gold, two silver and three bronze—in a campaign defined by depth, dominance and consistency across all boat classes.
Our Schoolgirl First VIII produced a historic performance, leading from start to finish in the A Final to claim the Sydney Cup for the first time in the school’s history. The Under 17 Schoolboy Quad asserted themselves in a fiercely competitive field to secure gold, while the Under 17 Schoolgirl Eight delivered a powerful performance to take silver. Additional podium finishes across multiple crews highlighted the strength and breadth of the entire squad.
In total, 28 athletes returned home as national medallists, and every student who competed progressed to an 'A' Final - an exceptional achievement at the highest level of school rowing in Australia.
