WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING (2 of 2)

ANZAC DAY SERVICE

BY ANDREW WARE (HEAD OF TEACHING & LEARNING - SECONDARY)

Last Friday, our school community gathered for our annual ANZAC Service to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our nation.

Each year, the service has a different focus for remembrance and honouring those who have served our country. This year, we specifically paid tribute to the women who have served in our Armed Forces, starting with the Boer War, and in every conflict right through to today.

Thank you to the parents and families who attended and supported this important occasion. Your presence helped make the service especially meaningful.

Also, thanks to the Primary and Secondary school leaders, other students and staff who participated in the ceremony. Your involvement demonstrated the true spirit of remembrance. As always, it's especially nice having our youngest students, Preps and Year 1s, laying poppies in commemoration of service personnel who have served in so many different wars.

A special thanks as well to two parents from our community. Mr. Billy Schroder helped with our ANZAC Day social media posts, and Mr. Jared Snoxell laid a wreath on behalf of the school at the Upwey-Belgrave dawn service.

As always a big thank-you to Mrs. Joy McGrath, who continues to put so much time and energy into ensuring the success and significance of our ANZAC Service.

Lest We Forget.

SPORT AT BHCS

BY STEVE KELLY (SECONDARY SPORT COORDINATOR / CSEN COORDINATOR)

It's been a fantastic start to the year in the sport space, and I wanted to take a moment to share what our students have been up to — because there's a lot to be proud of.

Our Year 7 and 8 students are currently midway through the CSEN Inter-school Sport season, which runs across all of Semester 1.

The effort and attitude they've shown each week has been outstanding. Right now, our Girls Basketball and Girls Soccer teams are both sitting in 1st place on their respective ladders — a brilliant result. Our Boys Netball and Boys Volleyball teams are sitting in 3rd, competing hard every week and continuing to grow as teams. It's a real credit to the students and the culture they're building together.

This week also saw a group of our students head out to a CSEN Basketball Academy day, where they had the opportunity to trial for the CSEN USA Basketball team — available for both girls and boys. It's exactly the kind of opportunity that makes school sport so valuable: a chance to push yourself, represent your school, and see where your abilities can take you.

Looking ahead, there's plenty more to get excited about. Coming up this term we have Year 11/12 Rally Day, CSEN Soccer Championships, Secondary House Athletics, and CSEN Cross Country. Later in the term, we're also looking forward to our Gold Coast Sports Tour, which gives students in Years 10–12 the chance to compete in basketball and netball in a fantastic team environment.

The range of opportunities available to our students is something I'm really proud of. Sport at BHCS is about more than competition — it's about community, growth, and giving every student a chance to belong to something.

HOUSE CUP POINT UPDATE:

Still nice and close at the top, with Sherbrooke holding strong! We have lots of events coming up over the next few weeks, along with students earning points through their day-to-day good character.

STUDENT HIGHLIGHT - TRISTAN FARRUGIA

BY STEVE KELLY (SECONDARY SPORT COORDINATOR / CSEN COORDINATOR))

Tristan Farrugia, a student in Year 10, competed in the National Athletics Championships in Queensland over the holidays. He came first in Triple Jump for U/17, jumping 13.98m and so is now the best in Australia for that age-group.

Congratulations Tristan!
