Visual Arts

The Prep to Grade 2 students, were tasked with creating monochromatic self-portraits. Students are in the early stages of this project and have so far completed a self portrait using grey lead then finishing off with fineliner. Each student will choose a single colour that resonates with them and use various shades and tones of that colour to depict themselves. This project introduces them to the concept of monochrome while encouraging self-expression. The students will explore different techniques with their chosen colour, using paints, crayons, and pencils to bring their portraits to life. The result will be vibrant, one-color portraits, each reflecting the individuality and creativity of its creator, while helping the students understand colour theory and develop their artistic skills.

In an inspiring creative project for grade 3-6 students, the focus was on student voice and agency, allowing each student to design their own project using their preferred medium. Students were encouraged to explore their individual interests and express themselves through art forms such as painting, sculpture and textiles. With minimal guidelines, they brainstormed ideas, gathered materials, and brought their unique visions to life. One student group created a skateboard depicting their favourite hobby, while another crafted a detailed clay model of a flower arrangement. This project not only fostered creativity but also empowered students to take ownership of their learning and artistic expression.
