Performing Arts

In Drama, we have continued exploring and learning how students can make drama to communicate ideas and stories.

We have been looking at real and imagined situations. One game we play is where we have an object that we pass around the circle such as a texta. Students have to imagine what the object could be, e.g. this is my magic wand, this is my toothbrush. Some imaginations are very creative and have us all laughing! Some students like to act out a little scene of them using their magic wand etc.

A focus has been on students creating and acting out scenes of their choice in class with a peer and sharing this to our class audience.

Students in Prep-Two made their very own stick puppets. They planned and created a story between their two characters. The Grade 3-4 students read scripts to perform to an audience. Students have focused on using their voice, facial expression, movement and space to imagine and improvise characters and situations. They have also been learning to communicate non-verbally using facial expression and movement to explore and show a character’s feelings.

Students have been learning that drama involves pretending that what is happening in the drama is real. Students recently had to act out them watching a happy movie, sad movie, scary movie and boring movie. Their use of voice and facial expressions definitely shone through.

5/6 Production.

The grade 5/6s are busy with the production. Student voice is a big part of the production so we have students helping with how the back of scenes should look, how characters could be performing etc. We have had students choreographing dances. The first song/dance moves are up on the class website. All 5/6s have been highly encouraged to learn their dance at home, it's under 3 minutes of their time! The second song/dance will be released this week on the class website so that both can be practiced at home.

If you look around the school you will see that students have made and displayed flyers  advertising our production.

Tickets will go on sale soon for Thursday 20th June. Everyone is welcome to attend!
