FUNDRAISING 2025
2024 fundraising round up
There were 10 fundraising events held in 2024, raising a total of $24500. These funds were used to upgrade the drinking taps and the remainder of the funds will be added to the adventure playground update project, as outlined in the previous newsletter. Fernanda Captzan is leading this project and is working hard to make these updates in 2025.
A huge thank you to the many parents and family members that gave their time to organising the events this year. In particular, thank you to Erin Church, who was Chair of the Social & Fundraising Group until it ended earlier this year, and the long-time Group members. Your support and contribution has meant our students have better learning opportunities and outcomes.
Fundraising survey results
Thank you to the families that completed the fundraising survey last term. Your feedback was discussed at length at School Advisory Council meetings and has helped formulate Holy Rosary’s future approach fundraising. Overall, the survey results showed the following:
- The events most enjoyed by families are the family fun day, the athletics day BBQ, the disco and fun lunch Fridays
- Families are happy to help on the day of fundraising events but don’t have the time or capacity to organise events
- Families would like to attend social gatherings that don’t involve fundraising, but don’t have the time to organise them
- Alternative fundraising models preferred by families are (1) a fundraising levy is included in school fees; (2) outsourcing the organisation of major fundraising events to a third party; and (3) compulsory volunteer hours for parents/carers.
- Other suggested fundraising activities included walk-a-thons, art shows, online auctions, second hand book sale, fun run, movie nights
Fundraising changes
Following discussions at the School Advisory Council and by the Leadership Team, Holy Rosary’s approach to fundraising will change next year. The intention is to better accommodate time constraints on families, while continuing to improve the school for students and create a connected community for families.
- Funds raised will be spent on improving the tools, spaces and programs that create a passion for learning and connections for Holy Rosary students
- Clear fundraising goals will be set at the start of the year, establishing what funds will be spent on. The school community will have the opportunity to contribute suggestions and ideas for the goals and regular updates will be shared throughout the year
- Funds will be spent within the calendar year, as far as possible
- There will be one major fundraising event each year focused on engaging students and providing fun, enriching experiences for them. It will be organised by a third party.
- 2025 is a designated family fun day year and we would love to see it continue to run as it has in the past, with a lead organiser and full cohort of parent volunteers. The focus of the day will be creating social and community connections, and simply covering costs. Any fundraising will be a bonus! Same for fun lunch Fridays, the athletics BBQ and the disco. Call outs for interested organisers go out next year, or please get in touch with Christine (principal@hrkensington.catholic.edu.au) or the Council (hrsac@hrkensington.catholic.edu.au)
- In 2026, a fundraising levy will be introduced into fees. This is intended to cover the fundraising goals as much as possible. From 2026, any money raised at the major event will contribute ‘above and beyond’ the levy. There is no expectation for families to contribute to this event in addition to the levy, as the focus is on student participation and fun!
- Class reps, or other parents, are encouraged to self-organise social gatherings for their year levels or for other groups at the school. If you are interested in being a class rep next year, please get in touch with Christine (principal@hrkensington.catholic.edu.au) or the Council (hrsac@hrkensington.catholic.edu.au)
