Weeks 2 and 3 at the Junior School were very much community-oriented, with celebrations like Edmund Rice Feast Day, Mother’s Day events, as well as the Annual House Cross Country Event. These events demonstrated just how dedicated to SVC the members of our community are.
This is a reminder about uniform requirements. All students in the Junior School are required in Terms 2 and 3, on Sports uniform day, to wear their full PE uniform to school, including the soft shell jacket and long pants. The beanie may be worn but only with the sports uniform.
Please join us in extending a warm welcome to a new student - Dev Madhusuthanan (Year 6). Dev and his family have recently immigrated from India. Dev will be joining Dwyer House.
We had a fabulous Breakfast on Monday morning for our annual Mother’s Day Breakfast. One of our most successful events in recent years with many mothers, grandmothers or special people and their children joining us from Kindergarten through to Year 6. These events do not happen without a team effort. Thank you to our wonderful Parents and Friends Committee members who helped organise the breakfast as well as the volunteer dads who came along early to set up tables, chairs, BBQs, cut fruit and so on. We also had many staff members attend who also assisted on the day.
The Junior School Parents and Friends Association are delighted to announce the winners of our Mother's Day Raffle which was drawn on Friday 10 May.

Legislative Council Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall
Thank you to the many generous families who donated items to the cake stall for our Legislative Council Election Day. Also to the parents/carers who turned up to help cook sausages, and egg and bacon burgers. On the day we managed to make a profit of $1002.
AFL Football Tipping
The St Virgil’s College Football Tipping Competition 2024 remains fiercely contested. After 10 rounds Pies Back-to-Back is our leader on 66 (Joker used), followed by Walkerbruz (61), JACQUIB (60), Katharine McGee (59) and stalkyJ (59 – Joker used). The tactical use of the Joker is proving to be intriguing as we near the halfway mark of the competition!

Next Junior School P&F General Committee Meeting

Twelve of our Junior School Captains and Vice-Captains were invited to attend the IPSHA Leadership Day at The Hutchins School on Friday 10 May. This was an exciting opportunity for the students to come together with students from six other IPSHA primary schools across Southern Tasmania.
Throughout the day, students were encouraged to explore and learn about themselves as leaders and to identify their leadership capabilities through participating in hands-on activities, listening to Adam Mostogl (guest speaker) and playing together during breaks.
Adam Mostogl spoke of the idea that a title doesn’t make you a leader. To be a good leader, you must be someone you are willing to follow. He prefers to refer to this idea as ‘followship’, and he challenged the students to reflect on their actions moving forward by considering, would I follow me?
We have continued our learning about community and what it means to belong to one. We were very fortunate to have Constable Bailey visit us from Tasmania Police. He spoke to the Prep and Kindergarten students about the important role that police officers have in the community. The students had many wonderful questions and wonders which they shared. The highlight for many was the experience of sitting in the police car and witnessing the lights and sirens.
The Prep students had a special visit from Nicki and Guide Dog in training, Reggie. It was an enlightening experience for the students, who learned about the significance of Guide Dogs in our community and the training process they undergo.
We had our Years 3-6 Cross Country Carnival on Thursday 9 May. We were blessed with perfect running weather. Students from Years 3-6 ran and walked the entirety of their courses, competing with House spirit and excellent sportsmanship. A big thank you to Mr Michael Moschogianis, Karryn McCullagh and the staff for running such a well-organised event.
Top 8 students in each grade were:
Tickets are now on sale for the Festival of Voices Young Tasmania Sings concert on Tuesday 2 July at 7.00 pm in the Federation Concert Hall.
