Dear St Francis Xavier Families,
FIRST COMMUNION
Last Sunday a small group of our students, Kaley, Marc, Liam and Ashirin received the Sacrament of Eucharist. The children were very excited about receiving communion for the first time. Thank you to Fr Chinua, Mr Brendan and Miss Lisa for their preparation of the children and to their families who supported them throughout the preparation journey.
CONFIRMATION
Our Year 6 students will begin preparation for Confirmation next term. If you haven't responded to the letter sent home last year but would like your child prepared for Confirmation please call or email me before the end of this term.
LITURGICAL CALENDAR
This week I was invited into the Year 1/2 classes to chat about the Catholic Liturgical Calendar. We viewed the main events and times of the year and learned that each season has a special colour. Some of the children noticed their class prayer table cloths are changed to match the seasons. I was very impressed by the questions asked and the comments and observations made by the 1/2s.
CHATTING ABOUT LEARNING
I love it when students approach me to chat about what is happening in their lives or to share information relating to something they have been learning. This week Everard visited my office to show me a book he has recently been gifted about world religions. I will be ordering a copy for our school library.
WEDNESDAY MORNING WHOLE SCHOOL PRAYER
This week the Faith in Action Leaders presented information and a prayer about Friday's Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus - a reminder that we are loved no matter who we are or what we do. We were joined by some of the 1/2 students who shared ways we can show love to one another.
STAFF CONFERENCE
The staff are currently on a two day conference during which we are exploring and reflecting on our cultural identity as individuals and as a community. We hope our learnings will enable us to return to St Francis Xavier with an even strong sense of how to connect with each other and you, our families, and work together to enable the best outcomes for our children. When I was preparing the conference prayer I found this quote from the Brisbane Catholic Education Office. It resonated with me so I thought I'd share it with you.
God's blessings to you all,
Marion O'Brien
