PE/Sport Update

Cross Country

On Monday the 20th of May, 19 students, from across Grades 3-6, represented Trafalgar Primary School at the West Gippsland Divisional Cross Country competition. Cross country is an all-weather, long-distance running event in which students run a race over natural terrain such as dirt or grass.

Our students demonstrated exceptional stamina and determination as they ran over challenging terrain for a distance of either 1.75km or 3km. They pushed themselves to overcome personal boundaries and cheered on their teammates every step of the way. Congratulations to all the students who participated. You should all be very proud of what you were able to achieve.

We would like to extend a special congratulations Max C (1st), Blayke N (9th), Havana B (9th), and Isla J (9th) who placed in the top 10 students in their age groups. As a result, these students will progress to the Gippsland Regional Cross Country competition on Thursday the 6th of June. We wish them all the best as they attempt to qualify for the Victorian State Championships.

Winter Sports

As a part of Trafalgar Primary School’s Sport and Physical Education program, all students in Grade 5-6 participate in a School Sports Victoria (SSV) competition known as Winter Sports. At Winter Sports, students play multiple matches against students from other local schools in one of the following team sports: AFL, Soccer, Netball, or Teeball.

This event will take place on Monday 3 June. Please ensure that all permission forms are signed and returned to school as soon as possible.

In addition, we would welcome any parents who would be willing to volunteer their time as a coach for either our AFL, Netball, Teeball, or Soccer teams. If you are willing and able to assist with one of these sports, please notify Mr White at your earliest convenience. Note that accompanying adults will need to be in possession of a Working With Children Check and must adhere to our Statement of Values and School Philosophy policy at all times.

Lunchtime AFL Rules

As we are now in the thick of AFL season, we would like to remind everyone about the School AFL Rules developed specifically for when students are playing at recess and lunchtime, without a teacher-umpire. These rules aim to:

  • Reduce student injuries
  • Minimise disagreements about the rules
  • Enable age-appropriate AFL skill practice
  • Prepare students for AFL rules at SSV competitions

These rules were developed last year by consulting with students, reviewing SSV and local club rules, and integrating concussion science.

Yinnar STEM Excursion

Year 3/4

On Friday the 17th of May, thirty lucky students from the 3\4 classes were selected to go on an excursion to Max Biocare Research Park in Yinnar. At Max Biocare we got to do fingerprinting, microscoping and much much more. There were also different sites, they were: site 1 Fingerprinting, site 2 Microscopes – Fibre, Hair, Shoeprint Analysis, site 3 Laboratory –Ink and Powder Analysis. There was also a very beautiful garden with lots of flowers and plants. We had lots of fun and got to eat honey on a stick from Bill and it was very tasty too. Bill was the beekeeper and in summer there is usually a bee excursion. We made a song for Bill and it goes like this “Bill nye the beehive guy.” After that we went back to school and told the class all about the fantastic time at Max Biocare!!!

On the 17th of May 30 grade 3/4’s got chosen to go to Max Biocare Research Park in Yinnar. When we got there we met our helpers and Bill who was a beekeeper. We got split into three groups . The first thing my group did was a shoe print mould, where there was a shoe print mould and you had to measure the shoe and you had to match it up with the same shoe that was not a mould.

We did a rotation and next was fingerprinting. We all got a booklet and on one page there was a picture of a left hand and a right hand with boxes on top of each finger. And you had to put each of your fingers in ink and place it in the right spot. If you finished early you had to go to see Bill and he would melt the honeycomb and then you would put two of your fingers on the honeycomb and create an imprint.

Bill was really nice, and I wish it wasn’t over and I hope to go next year.

Ok, after all the fun was over, well we all thought, Bill came onto the bus and gave out some HONEY!

At snack some people tried to build a leaf pile and when they finished some people jumped into it!

Naming Student Items and Uniform

We have an astounding amount of unnamed uniform and student items in lost property.

Daryl does a sweep of the yard daily after school and collects all lost property, more often than not, these are not named, so do not make it back to their owners.

Please take care to name all uniform items and anything that your child brings to school.

Thank you for your cooperation.
