Principal Team Message

Sam Tyndall & Emily Harvey

Hello BRPS Community,

As we approach the final week of Term Two,  I want to thank you for your support of your child's learning and engagement at school, as well as participation in the many community events and activities held throughout the term.

From swimming programs, camps and excursions to the whole-school cross country, Wear It Yellow Day, Art Competitions and Shows, participation in the full breadth of school experiences by staff, students, and their families is commendable.

Of course, I will miss the BRPS community over the second half of the year as I take extended leave to travel around Australia with my family.

This type of adventure seems to be very popular amongst BRPS families and I thank the many parents, carers and students who have extended their well-wishes and given me advice about the best places to visit along the way! I believe I may even see some of our families at different locations across the country at different times – please say hello if you spot me!

I leave the school in strong hands and welcome Ms. Nicola Smith into the role of Acting Principal throughout my leave. Nicola has completed a thorough handover and is relishing the opportunity to contribute to the progress and outcomes of our school and students. I think the students said it best when Nicola quizzed them at our assembly on Monday: “Black Rock has great parks, great values that everyone knows, teachers that are kind and help us with our learning and students that get along together as friends!” What a wonderful place to be and I'm sure Nicola will feel the positive energy and spirit and will be warmly welcomed by our school community.

I know our students will continue to learn, achieve and thrive during this time.

I’m looking forward to hearing about the school community’s achievements in the second half of the year and look forward to re-joining you refreshed and energised for the commencement of the 2025 school year.

Beaumaris Sec Art Show

Beaumaris Secondary College was buzzing last night with students from local schools putting their creativity on display across the school. The show, was held for students in Year Four to Year Eight and the exhibition featured the works from Black Rock Primary, Beaumaris Primary, Beaumaris North Primary and Beaumaris Secondary College. It was great to hear there was a large turn out of BRPS students and their families. Thank you to Hayley Rings and Olivia Winfield, our Visual Art teachers, for supporting the students during their art lessons to create such  wonderful pieces. A huge thanks to Olivia Winfield for participating in storing, setting up, attending and packing down the students' work yesterday.

Conferences

Thank you to all parents, carers and students who attended the P/T Conferences last week. Along with the Student Achievement Reports they were a real celebration of learning and collaborative effort between students and teachers to help all reach their goals.

NAIDOC Week

This year NAIDOC Week is celebrated in the second week of the July School Holidays.

This is a time to celebrate our  Australian history and First Nations cultures.

During this week maybe take a moment to pop to your local library and borrow one of the amazing books listed below.

Come Together - Isaiah Firebrace

This Book Thinks Ya Deadly!: A Celebration of Blak Excellence - Corey Tutt

My Deadly Boots - Carl Merrison & Hakea Huslter

Guardians (Wylah the Koorie Warrior, Book 1) - Jordan Gould & Richard Pritchard

Regional Cross Country

Congratulations to Year 5 student Vivienne B who  recently competed at the Regional Cross Country, finishing in 2nd place! Vivienne now will go on to participate in the State Cross Country competition. We are sure the entire BRPS community will be behind Vivienne cheering her on to achieve her best!

Year 5 Camp - "The Island" Phillip Island

Our Year 5 students enjoyed an amazing time at "The Island" Phillip Island from the 12-14 July.

The students visited the Fairy Penguins, Amaze 'n' Things and a Wildlife Park, and during the week there were many adventure activities such as a flying fox and the ever-popular giant swing.

I really must extend an enormous amount of gratitude and thanks to the Year 5 teachers (Tori Lancaster, Rose Thompson and Catherine Brand) for their effort and commitment in planning such a successful and safe camp. We know that camp involves 24-hour responsibilities and duty of care to provide such a rich and rewarding experience for our students.  In addition, thanks to Specialist teachers and pre-service teacher and past student Alex Watkins for volunteering to spend a week away from their families in support of this experience for our students.
