Term 2 is flying by! We have had such an incredible term engaging in learning activities in multiple ways including; incursions, beach walks, excursions, cross country, winter lightening premierships and Wakakirri practice. There's no wonder why we have some pretty tired children at the moment! In the final weeks of school, remember the importance of strong routines, adequate sleep and plenty of water.

Talking to your child about their learning.

Do you often get the response "Nothing" when you ask your child what they did at school today? Sometimes it's best if we ask an open question, this is a question that requires more than just a yes/no response. Here's a list of questions you might like to try:

  • What did you do in Maths today?
  • What was the best thing about recess/lunch?
  • What can you do if you don't understand your learning?
  • Tell me 2 stars and a wish about today. ie: 2 stars = positives, a wish = something they would do better or differently.
  • What are you most proud of today?
  • Ask me a question about my day.

These types of questions might help you spark meaningful conversations to provide insight into your child's day. By actively listening to your children, you acknowledge their agency and help to develop their voice and conversation skills. Doing this helps to build the partnership between home and school and hows that you are invested in their learning and development.
