Year 5/6 - Senior Unit

The Year 5/6 cohort has another busy couple of weeks.

Here’s a look at what they’ve been up to:

YEAR 5

2026 Leadership:

For the past few weeks, the Year 5 students have been exploring what it means to be a leader and using this knowledge to write application speeches and letters for 2026 leadership roles in our school. The School Captain speeches were presented last Wednesday, and the House Captain speeches were presented yesterday. We would like to congratulate all of the speakers on the exceptional quality of their speeches, which were presented with confidence to their peers.

YEAR 6

Fundraiser

A huge thank you to the Year 6 students, as well as students from all year levels, for their contributions to our Celebration Day fundraiser. The Year 6 students worked collaboratively to create games, activities, raffles, and competitions to raise funds for this special event. Not only did we raise a significant amount, but the students demonstrated excellent leadership, financial skills, and teamwork throughout the process. Well done, everyone!

Transition Session

Students attended a transition session at the Kyneton Mechanics Institute last Thursday.

Representatives from most local secondary schools were present, along with students from neighbouring primary schools in our region.

Upcoming Events

Celebration Day:

Celebration Day has been booked for Thursday, 18 December, the second-last day of school. After voting on a range of options, Year 6 students have chosen to spend the day at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), where they will enjoy free swimming, the wave pool, inflatable obstacle course and diving boards.

Once funds have been finalised from the Celebration Day Fundraiser, we will communicate the remaining cost to families.

Graduation:

Year 6 Graduation will be held on Tuesday, 16 December. Students have already selected their meal for the Graduation Dinner at the Vic Hotel, and the Compass payment event is now live. Thank you to those who have already finalised payment. We'll share more details about the rest of the evening soon.

If your child did not attend Woodend Primary School in Prep, please send a hard copy of their Prep photo to school or email a digital copy to Katie Cashen.

Inquiry

Next week, students will begin their new Inquiry Project related to our studies in Chemical Sciences. They will receive a rubric outlining the available tasks and the expectations for each one. Some of this work will be done as part of their homework, as well as during designated class sessions. The completed projects will be presented to the school community during Week 10 on Thursday, December 11th.
