This week, RGLPS received its own FOGO bin from Banyule City Council. This FOGO bin will allow us to dispose of our food waste in an efficient and environmentally friendly way. Historically, we have composted our food scraps in compost tumblers, however these tumblers are not able to break down a lot of our food waste and they take a large amount of time to become useable compost. Last week, representatives from Council ran an incursion with our Sustainability Group to discuss what can and cannot go in our FOGO bin, and showed us how the FOGO waste is broken down in 6-10 days at the processing plants and then used as compost on large farms.

As part of National Recycling Week, the Sustainability Group decided to have a poster competition for our new FOGO bin (see the below flyer). There will be a prize for the winning entry and we will be including the winning poster on our new FOGO bin to help students know what can go in the bin.

Congratulations to 5A for having the most nude food lunch boxes for Weeks 3 and 4.

Special mention to 4C who were the most improved class from last fortnight for nude food lunch boxes.

A nude food lunch box has zero packaging waste. Compost and reusable containers / bags are okay. Please continue to reduce the amount of waste / rubbish being sent to school.
