Prep - Let's Party!
We are creating self-portraits inspired by the upcoming NGV children’s exhibition Let’s Party by Danielle Brustman.
This week, students embraced the theme of dressing up by using a range of fabrics from the art room to design their own outfits. Once their creative looks were complete, we headed outside for a fun and confident walk down the runway.
Grade 3/4 - Weaving
The Grade 3/4 students have been learning about weaving, exploring both traditional and contemporary weaving practices. This week, they practised weaving on looms and were introduced to key vocabulary, including the terms warp and weft.
Grade 5/6 - Sewing
We have begun a new project involving the creation of a small sewn pillow. This week, students learned how to make a pattern, secure it to fabric using pins, and carefully cut out their pieces using the pattern as a guide. Next week, they will be introduced to the running stitch and the blanket stitch. Once confident with these techniques, students will join their two fabric pieces to construct a pillow, which will later be filled with hobby fill.
Artwork of the Week
Artist of the Month
Catia (4C)
Catia loves to draw and uses a lot of her spare time doing so. She loves realism but also loves to draw cartoons. She has taught herself to draw through lots of persistence and practise. She is most proud an eye that she made using digital art techniques. Her advice to other students who would like to improve their art skills is, "always try to use grid lines (it makes a big difference) and don't listen to the haters!"
We hope you enjoy your work?
